1/1/2021: Got up at 7:35. Discovered there was no electrical wires at the center of the ceiling after opening it up, shoot! I'll need to come up with a solution to conceal the added wires if I wanted to hook up the light fixture, the idea of hiding at least the ceiling part of the added wire was not possible as there were cross beams blocking the path to the wall, another shoot!
1/2/2021: Got up at 7:15. Visited Marukai by myself while Anita attend Zumba class on Zoom, purchased one pack thick slice toast, 4 heads Bok Choy, one jar sweet pickled ginger, two Yakisoba sets, one Salmon Shioyaki bento, and one pack bean sprouts. Rode 30 minutes bike.
1/3/2021: Got up at 7:25. Spent 20 minutes cleaning leftover garden waste, the leftover was especially serious, literally the whole court was littered with them, I had to draw a line a little closer to the other side of the street for cleaning, I could not do the whole court. Added $10.00 to Anita's T-Mobile account as it dropped to $0.09, still not sure why but if this continues, I am changing it to Google Fi as well soon.
1/4/2021: Got up at 7:15. Jason dropped off 20 Persimmons at 9:28. Spent 30 minutes cleaning up backyard leaves, they were mostly from our back door neighbor's no name big tree. Had 12 minutes MB with hands and legs, EJ.
1/5/2021: Got up at 7:50. Cleaned backyard leaves in 15 minutes, even though it wasn't a lot but much was still from the back door neighbor. Tried several approach to make a grove in the ceiling for the electrical wire, none of them were very effective, need to research more on that. Called Mom at 6:00 for 30 minutes.
1/6/2021: Got up at 7:15. Completed the section of grove needed to install the new ceiling light, seemed to be working OK for now, hiding the remaining wire and cover grove will be done after Anita leave for Taiwan.
Anita waited 3 hours to get her Covid test at CareNow, she was told that the result may come back in just two days, that'll disrupt her trip plan, pray the result won't come back until Monday. Had 10 minutes MB with hands and legs, no EJ.
1/7/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Marina Grocery with Anita, got one bottle 750ml Taiwan rice wine, one pack fried fish cake, two pack thick bean curd, 4 bag HFH spicy peanuts, 4 bag HFH crunch chili/peanuts, one head Napa cabbage, one pack small Gai Choy, one jar Kimbo Pork Sung, and one bag Mozzarella cheese, Anita got half a roast duck from their deli department, she also stopped by CVS next door and got three bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Moscato, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot, and one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Pinot Noir. Had 10 minutes MB with hands and legs, EJ-I should either reduce the frequency or completely stop this action.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 32 minutes.
1/8/2021: Got up at 7:10. Visited Costco with Anita, got one pack Celery, one pack Raspberry crumble cookies, and two dozen pastured eggs, no beef jerky or Cranberry Walnut bread were found.
1/9/2021: Got up at 7:00. Walked (with scarf and gloves on) to 99 Ranch Market, purchased one pack pork baby back rib, waited nearly 15 minutes for checkout, got home at 9:53, a total of 52 minutes. Anita's Covid test result was reported on Friday, meaning she had to reschedule her flight one day earlier to meet the 3-day requirement.
Anita tried but failed to change the flight online for unknown reason, she has to get another test and keep the same flight, after 20 minutes wait on hold, she finally spoke to an United representative, and after nearly half an hour effort, she finally got a economic plus seat (the middle seat in a 3-seat row with both sides empty for now) even though she paid premium economy class to begin with.
Anita's T-mobile account became low (~$3.50) again, need to keep it valid until she returns from Taipei-switch to Google Fi!!!!!!
1/10/2021: Got up at 7:12. Spent 35 minutes to clean up backyard leaves. Called Mom at 6:00 but she's busy dressing, called back at 6:20 again for 15 minutes.
1/11/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves in 10 minutes. Activated the second stimulus payment ($1200 for us) which is a Visa debit card, since GBC does not handle cash withdraw with this kind of item, we'll simply use it when making purchase (at Costco, Marina Grocery, or Marukai). Put away all Christmas lights, one of the non-LED one had a broken bulb, tried but failed to fix it with supplied replacements, threw it in the garbage bin, will try to get a couple of new LED lights later this year.
1/12/2021: Got up at 7:00. Helped Anita finishing her Taiwan Entrance quarantine form online, saved and transferred the image to her iPhone, also print one copy just in case. Added $4.99 to Anita's Skype account, also tested Line as well as WeChat on her iPhone and iPad. Anita checked in United UA871, there was a step scanning the passport which we tried for 10 minutes but couldn't do it, had to skip it without getting a boarding pass-we had to stop at the counter anyway. Received Exercise tube band kit from Amazon at 3:25pm by private vehicle. Called Mom at 6:00 for 34 minutes.
1/13/2021: Got up at 5:10. Took Anita to SFO for her trip back to Taiwan, left the house at 7:46 am, got there at 8:24, United counter now requires Covid negative test result as well as Taiwan entry form to check in, left SFO (at 9:13 am) without waiting for Anita passing through security check since I forgot to wear my eye glass (could not see her anyway), got home at 9:55. Anita called home at 10:03, I informed her that the window seat had been taken-found out later that both window and isle seats are still available, the display was different when I checked the last time.
Prepared 3 RMs from old exercise mats, tried them out and adjusted them to proper fittings.
1/14/2021: Tried calling Anita through Line several times but got no response. Got up at 7:10. Call Anita through Skype to her residence landline worked, turned out TPE exit was fairly swift but quarantine taxi was a different story, she waited 3 hours before getting one. Had 15 minutes MB with RMs, no EJ-I felt comfortable only in 2 of the 4 RMs, maybe I should go get another one?????? The Arlo cloud recording and sensor features will be gone by 1/17/2021 unless I start paying $5 each month, I checked the USB drive in the base system and found all the recordings so far, just not sure if accessing them will still be possible (easily at least without having to view it on my MacBook Pro) by 1/17, will check after that day to see if I can live with limited feature. Had 20 minutes MB with RMs, EJ. Called Anita at 4:11 for 21 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for 32 minutes.
1/15/2021: Got up at 7:30. Stopped by Costco, purchased one bag organic Fuji Apple, one pack (x4) organic tofu, and one pack Kirkland organic chicken thighs, could not find ANY beef jerky, used the stimulas Visa debit card to pay for the purchase, pin number was required but still simple. Our Korean neighbor put out a lot of unknown fruits (could be Pomelo) as part of garden waste in the street, most of them were left on the curbside after the pickup, I'll wait until later to clean them up hoping Mr. Kim will collect them before I do. Move the table saw to backyard and made several wood pieces to attach them to the ceiling to help cutting the grove needed to conceal the electrical wire.
Cleaned up leftover garden waste in the street, all except one of the "Pomelo" were picked up , most likely, by our Mr. Kim, but the widely scattered leaves and juice from the "Pomelo" made cleaning up difficult, total time spent was 27 minutes. Checked Anita's T-mobile account balance, it has dropped to $0.74.
Called Anita at 4:19 for 30 minutes. Called Peilee at 7:33 for 21 minutes, Mom's visitor issues were mostly aging related, she's getting new prescriptions to try this week.
1/16/2021: Got up at 7:15. Visited Marukai and purchased two Yakisoba set, one Salmon Shiyoyaki bento, one bag bean sprouts, one pack (x5) Myojo Udon, one pack (x6) Golden Kiwi-smaller than the one from Costco but it's also much cheaper, one bottle 1.5L SCB sake, and one Bara Chirashi. Swing by Marina Food and got 4 bags HFH spicy peanuts, 4 bags HFH crunch chili/peanuts, and one pack (x4) Neoguri spicy seafood flavor fast noodle. Stopped by Home Depot on De Anza, examined the 18V blower with battery, decided not to purchase it for now as most leaves were gone and not sure if it is really good. Using the Oscillating cutter, I was able to cut two lines into the ceiling within 10 minutes, there were a couple of spot it did not go through though, will find out why when I begin digging groove in between of these lines, the help of the old vacuum cleaner.
Processed Kirkland chicken thigh, resulting in 6 pack steaks and 3 pack diced-Kirkland took over original organic brand but their quality was %20 inferior. Called Anita at 4:22 for 30 minutes.
1/17/2021: Got up at 7:26. Hiked the 99 Ranch Market route, 10:10-10:47 with 4 minutes spent in the store but did no purchase, sweaty afterward, had 10 minutes MB with RMs, no EJ. Took care of two piles of poops in the front lawn and sprayed vinegar on those spots. Called Anita at 4:15 for 30 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for 27 minutes.
1/18/2021: Got up at 7:36. Gusty wind dropped many leaves, spent 15 minutes cleaned them up in the backyard. Anita's T-mobile account has $0.64 compare to $0.74 3 days before. Made nut mix ingredients (spicy peanuts, almond, Brazil nuts, and chestnuts), baked all except the spicy peanuts to make sure they are crunch enough. Picked out the threaded chili and spices from the spicy peanuts mix, blended them and filled in the chili spice container for later use. Had 20 minutes MB with RMs and hands, no EJ. Attached and lined up the two boards on the wall to continue the grave carving process, vertical one is easier than the one on the ceiling.
Called Anita at 4:15, 4:16, and 4:17, all failed to go through, used Echo drop-in to notify her then tried again with Line, still took nearly 30 seconds before her iPad started ringing-not sure why, chatted for 6 minutes.
1/19/2021: Got up at 7:00. Walked to Costco from 9:09 to 10:11 with roughly 10 minutes in the store, searched for beef jerky and found them near the last isle, got 3 of them just in case. Made the short horizontal grove cut near the outlet.
Cut 3 feet of the 3-wire electrical wire that had been nailing to the ceiling of the garage but unused, removed the outer wrapping and the ground wire, connected the black (hot) and white ones to the outlet junction box, routed the two wires to fit inside the new grove.
Had 25 minutes MB with RMs, no EJ. Called Anita at 4:18 for 29 minutes.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 28 minutes.
1/20/2021: Got up at 7:23. Tried several methods to affix wires into the groves, none worked well, discovered, after some pondering, that stables made a relatively strong holder as long as the grove width is shorter than the stabler.
Cut to length of the two wires (power cord and 3-wire wire from the garage) and soldered them in place, tucked all wires into the grove, will observe the light function (light stays on and the wires won't get hot) for a couple of days before covering up the grove just to be sure.
Processed 12 Passion fruits, got about one small jar of juice.
Checked Anita's CapitalOne credit card balance ($636.49) and filled in Fidelity BillPay to be paid on 2/1/2021, still pending are the availabilities of PGE and Anita's Chase Visa balance info.
1/21/2021: Got up at 7:15. Used slices of styrofoam and filled some of the gaps in the grove, applied joint compound to the vertical and bottom groves, the compound is too thin, need to make it thicker before applying it to ceiling grove.
Moved the joint compound container under the sun to dry off some of the moisture in it.
Walked the 99 Ranch Market route version 2.0-to Hostetter then back to residential streets, took 43 minutes (1:06-1:49). Checked Anita's T-mobile account balance to be $0.54. Filled tope ceiling grove with styrofoam strips.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 34 minutes. Taped the vertical and bottom groves with mesh tape for next stage joint compound application.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 32 minutes.
1/22/2021: Got up at 7:10. It started to rain around 5:00am, checked and filled several buckets after breakfast. Filled the ceiling gap with joint compound with drier portion which I prepared during the night.
Visited Marina Grocery and purchased one bottle 750ml Taiwan rice wine, one pack bacon, one pack small Gai Choy, four bags HFH spicy peanuts (did not see HFH crunch chili/peanut), two pack thick bean curd, one pack baby carrots, and one bag bamboo shoots, also got one half roast duck ($13.61 before $3.00 coupon). Stopped by CVS next door but none of the Barefoot was labeled on sale so I left empty handed. Swing by Walmart and got two bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot, three bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Moscato, two bottle Aloe Vera, one bottle 64 oz Hazelnut creamer, and one pack (x2) Bounty paper towel. It started raining again while I was in Walmart, filled 3 more buckets with new rain water. Applied joint compound to the mesh-taped groves (vertical and bottom), used sponge to smooth them out for painting, also applied one more coat of joint compound to the ceiling grove, will attach mesh tape to the ceiling grove after it became dry.
Had 15 minutes MB with experimental mini RMs, seemed to work, no EJ. Called Anita at 4:15 for 28 minutes.
1/23/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by Lowes to pick up 2 or three white paint sampler, but the designated area only had one white which wasn't what I had in mind, searched the aisles for nearly 15 minutes and decided to get one gallon ultra white interior, the thought was to apply to the grove areas to see if they match, will need to paint the whole ceiling and wall if not, that seemed to be the only solution, also purchased one bag dry moss. Filled the feeder which although had some leftover on the side but they cling to the edge avoiding normal drop. Hand sanded the patches, lots of fine dust.
The Ultra white paint applied to the grave area was too white compared to existing wall color even after I wiped it down with wet cloth, looks like I'll have to paint the the whole ceiling and wall, damn!
Filled wheel barrel with top portion of bucket water (less dirty).
1/24/2021: Got up at 7:00. Made a cover for the wheel barrel from the picture part of the framed picture (from Kung) by covering one side of it with plastic sheet, then discovered the wheel barrel was leaking, had to remove all water to investigate, possibly after the stream of rain passed. Applied newly found and unused eggshell white paint from the garage shelf, still not getting the result I desired, noticeably different from the original paint, looks like I'll have to repaint the whole ceiling and wall. Cleaned up backyard leaves including the ones alongside and within the flower plants.
Applied thinned paint to the wall, the result did not make it better, guess I'll have to apply the full strength paint to the whole wall and ceiling. Applied full strength paint to the wall (2/3 on the right side), it's a little better.
Discovered Anita's T-mobile account is at $0.24.
Painted the remaining 1/3 of the wall with diluted paint. Had 15 minutes MB with mini RMs, EJ. The remaining 1/3 with diluted paint turned out not good, I'll have to repaint it with full strength paint again. Called Anita at 4:15 for 37 minutes. Called Mom at 7:00 for 34 minutes.
1/25/2021: Got up at 7:00. Swing by Costco and purchased two dozen pastured eggs, one jar Kim-chi, and one bag Kirkland thick beef jerky, filled 5 gall Octane 91 to LS400. Stewed the thick bean curd for 20 minutes, will let them soak in the gravy until at least, this evening. Decided to paint a circle touching the wall and also cover the light, this will be much simpler than painting the whole ceiling-drawing of the circle took a nailed center with attached string and a clip secured pencil at the end, again the long planning process was key to this. Removed lots of dead leaves from the branches of the Birds of Paradise, also cleaned up the withered flowers, cut two of the fresh ones for flower arranging.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 45 minutes.
1/26/2021: Got up at 6:50. It's the coldest of the year.
Spent 35 minutes had backyard cleaned up. Started creating the circle in the ceiling.
After two coats of paint, the circle looked nice.
Had 20 minutes bike ride. Had 15 minutes MB with mini RMs, no EJ. Called Anita at 4:15 for 34 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for 35 minutes. As it started to rain and wind picked up around 10:00, the patio umbrella frame that was housing the Passion Fruit vines tilted, I straightened it a couple of times but failed to keep it up, moved two heavy concrete brick frames to its base seemed to hold it nicely.
1/27/2021: Got up at 7:00. The Patio umbrella frame still standing thanks to the two bricks. Replaced the not-so-clean-water from a couple of buckets and the two litter boxes with the new one from last night. Added another coat of paint to the ceiling circle to make it a bit better looking. Moved everything back their original locations, an end to the ceiling light fixture project-took two weeks, longer than I planned.
With a new pair of leather gloves, I managed to break down (into small pieces) the glass from the picture frame, placed them in the double bagged Trader Joes's shopping bag, carefully taped closed the bag and left it in the garbage bin, some of the tiny glass debris had to be taken care of with the Dyson vacuum, also dumped the dried AF1224 paint container (with a big piece of residual dried paint). Had 15 minutes MB with mini RMs, no EJ. Called Anita at 4:15 for 35 minutes.
1/28/2021: Got up at 7:40. Anita's T-mobile account balance is $0.74 as opposed to $0.24 a few days ago, not sure what's going on.
It has been raining through the night and into mid day-nonstop. Paid Francisco $70 when he started at 1:13. Had 15 minutes MB with mini RMs, EJ. Called Anita at 4:15 for 32 minutes. Discovered Arlo Essential Spotlight can still be returned (by 1/31), I processed the return required paper work, will removed the camera and mounting hardware, clean it up. Called Mom at 6:00 for 28 minutes. Added bill pay to Fidelity for Anita's Chase (~9981) of $416.43.
1/29/2021: Got up at 7:00. Removed all Arlo Essential Spotlight camera and mounting hardware, removed the device from Arlo app, reset it to factory setting, found the same box it was shipped in, put camera, USB cable mounting hardware, sealed the box with shipping tapes, and operation instruction sheets in the box along with information label (this is in case outside info got lost during return process, pasted shipping label and two hazardous content (battery) info label to the box, will take it to Kohl's this afternoon.
Stopped by Kohl's after lunch and returned Arlo Essential Spotlight camera, was pretty easy.
Received Amazon advanced refund of $109.24 in Amazon account, will be charged the same if item not received by Amazon. Called Anita at 4:15 for 35 minutes. Called Peilee at 4:51 for 16 minutes.
1/30/2021: Got up at 7:34. Visited Marukai and purchased one bottle 1.5L SCB sake, three head Broccoli, one Salmon Shioyaki bento, one hand organic banana, and one Tuna & Salmon Nigiri. Stopped by Harbor Freight Tools and got two 2" paint brush, one magnetic bar, and one flush cut saw. Felt a little better staying out of the house (9:05-10:10). Susan notified I can get calendar from her, will drop by her residence in Santa Clara tomorrow morning to get it. Downloaded 健保快易通 app to check my record but setting requires special equipment which I don't have, can't do! Called Anita at 4:15 for 21 minutes. Peilee helped found out the payment to health insurance seemed to go through OK all the way to 1/15/2021, current payment is due on 2/15/2021, something is wrong with the Post Office Savings account information system.
1/31/2021: Got up at 7:14. Stopped by Susan (Peng)'s residence in Santa Clara (met her at the front office) and got one 2021 OCAC (Oversea Community Affairs Council) Calendar.
Spent one hour trimming Oleander tree branch, my original plan was to cut off the biggest branch near the fence to our Korean neighbor, after pondering on how to go about it, I decided not to proceed because there's no easy way of avoiding branches from falling over the fence, instead I trimmed off most dried branches that had accumulated over the years. Called Anita at 5:15 for 26 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00, Afen told me she's not feeling well so I spoke to Afen for 17 minutes instead. Painted kitchen sink cabinet bottom with Valspar Eggshell Ultra white paint.
2/1/2021: Got up at 7:00. Put kitchen sink cabinet stuff back as the paint's dried. Anita's T-mobile account is at $0.54 as of today.
Trimmed off several more Oleander branches excluding the big tall one. Cut them into shorter pieces for easy dumping after lunch. Walked to Townsend Park and back, got lost for nearly 5 minutes before realizing I missed the right turn back, 2:35-3:20. Called Anita at 4:15 for 23 minutes.
2/2/2021: Got up at 6:55-made sure the feeder is doing its job. Filled one empty white bucket with new rain water, cleaned the litter box sitting in the front yard next to the cable junction box, turned it 180° so that the nearly broken side is now facing right-a less burdened side. This wave of rain is bigger than expected-it was supposed to die down before dawn but is still going. Had 10 minutes MB with legs, EJ. Called Anita at 4:15 for 33 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for 35 minutes, she's in a bad mood, although the new medication helped her sleep but she complained having too many dreams, and she's losing interest in almost everything-I can understand when you lost the ability to walk freely to go places you'd probably feel bad if you don't have other hobbies to replace the vacancies.
2/3/2021: Got up at 7:08. Labeling day, I decided to stop by Costco before going to Dynamic Foundation, purchased one pack (x5) Artisan Lettuce, one pack (x8) Apple Strudel, and one bag small Clementine. Spent nearly 3 hours pasting labels at Dynamic Foundation, possibly the longest one as there were only 6 people doing it, got one In-N-Out double burger afterward. Called Anita at 4:15 for 32 minutes. Added $4.99 to my Skype account to $7.13.
2/4/2021: Got up at 7:08. Spent one hour cleaned up backyard and hauled all Oleander trimmings to the curbside for garden waste pickup tomorrow. Anita's T-mobile account balance dropped to $0.24.
Decided to start working on the make-shift garage storage shelf, this is the last of the two book shelves I made long time ago, I wasn't sure how to put away the stuff on the shelves since there were many of them, but eventually moved the table saw out in the back yard, this made the task a little easier.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 24 minutes, she just got up-very tired from meeting 唐基明 for hot steam bath and feast from noon to 10:00pm. Called Mom at 6:00 but did not speak to her as she's still in foul mood and/or weak from fall last Saturday, chatted with Ahfen for 18 minutes instead.
2/5/2021: Got up at 7:05. Made two new sanding sticks after removing the old sand papers.
Moved the old book shelf out of the garage to et move room working on the dry wall.
Started filling the holes in the dry wall behind the old book shelf, preparing it for new paint.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 55 minutes. Found out what/where 任督脈 locate.
Called Peilee for 16 minutes.
2/6/2021: Got up at 7:14. Continue cleaning back yard moss on the brick platform. Set appointment to take Covid vaccine shot at Valley Health Center-Tully Internal Medicine on 2/17 10:15am (should be there at 10:00 for registration).
Anita's T-mobile account balance became $0.44-increased by $0.20 for some reason.
Cleaned up remaining moss in the backyard, moved all of them into the garbage bin. Called Anita at 4:15 for 38 minutes.
2//7/2021: Woke up at 4:15, could not sleep again until 6:00, got up at 7:50. Cleaned up Molley's vomit near the feeder, it had more liquid and mucus this time-difficult to remove. Prepared the old book shelf to be mounted where there's a gas pipe on the wall.
Prepared garage wall to be painted-taping the boundaries.
Painted the wall with old Ultra white semi-glossy, it did not match the existing paint I applied years ago but should be OK, plus I had to apply several times to cover the wall well-it did not have enough hiding power.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 46 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for 4 minutes, she sounded pretty bad.
2/8/2021: Got up at 7:10. Started painting the old book shelf, same challenge here as single coat simply won't do it.
Installed the driveway-R Arlo camera at the same location as the Arlo Essential Spotlight camera I returned last week, the original Arlo resolution is pretty low compared to the spotlight, but until the return status change to complete (currently at "Return In Transit"), I will not buy another Arlo Pro or Pro 2 camera. Painted the remaining (almost) part of the book shelf with three of the shelves removed and the book shelf laying side way, applied a couple of coats.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 28 minutes. Returned Peilee's Line call, chatted for 32 minutes.
2/9/2021: Got up at 7:50. Moved the book shelf and boards back to the garage as it started to rain, several spots had its paint stripped during the process, it's my fault since I did not sand the book shelf off it original stain, the new paint would not stick to it. Applied some paint to fix it, also paint areas not well covered. Took out the vent cover (the one I added as the vent allows too much air flow) and painted the whole cover as well as the wall concrete base, the concrete base was really uneven making me wonder how it was made, maybe I should smooth it out before painting, oh well, too late!
Called Anita at 4:15 for 34 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for one minutes saying she's tired.
2/10/2021: Got up at 7:10. Visited Marina Grocery and purchased one bottle 750ml Taiwan rice wine, one pack turnip cake, two bag HFH spicy peanuts, two bag HFH crunch spicy chili/peanuts, two pack (x8 each) thick bean curd, one red onion, and one bag small Gai Choy-the store had inflow control possibly due to more shoppers for Chinese New Year. Swing by CVS next door and got two bottle 1.5L Barefoot Moscato, three bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, and three bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot. Finished trimming the right side lower back of the book shelf to accommodate the wall vent cover, the Ryobi jig saw was used-slow though.secured the top cross board to the top shelf board with 3 screws since it will be attached to the studs, used makeshift support and lifted the book shelf to its final location, hold it in place with another makeshift bottom support, secured the book shelf to the wall with 2 2-1/2" screws to the studs behind the drywall.
Anita's T-mobile account balance is $0.04, not sure if I want to refill $10, I'll check if it goes up again tomorrow!
Called Anita at 4:15 for 45 minutes. Peilee called regarding which Moscato wine to purchase.
2/11/2021: Got up at 7:12. Filled up RX300 at Costco, the pump was malfunctioning as it kept shutting off, I had to hand hold it open at a low flow grip to finish. Trimmed off about 3/4 cm of the top shelf as it was a bit wide, but the depth of the shelf was too big for the sled I have and I had to slide it with both hands, the result was terrible, ned to add a wedge to it after attaching it back to the bookshelf. Covered the table saw with one more layer of tarp for better protection. Had 10 minutes MB with mini RMs, EJ. Attached one old curtain hardware to the lower shelf to secure the bottom part of the bookshelf to the wall.
Attached all shelves back with original screws-obviously it was (over 30 years ago) a bad design as hardware used weren't desirable plus the boards were not well fitted.
My New Years Eve dinner:
Checked Anita's T-mobile account balance again-it increased from $0.04 to $0.24.
Applied paint to cover bruised and/or missed spots of the bookshelf, this should be the final coat except maybe some touchups later. Need to trim off half a center meter from the bottom front board to fit gallon paint containers storage just below the bookshelf.
2/12/2021: Got up at 7:15. Put away the scrap wood used as temp support for the bookshelf. The two packs of bathroom tissues have plenty of space even stored vertically.
Spent 40 minutes cleaning up weeds in between cement blocks and bricks. Anita's T-mobile account balance dropped to $0.14.
Called Anita at 4:14 for 35 minutes.
2/13/2021: Got up at 7:30. Visited Marukai and purchased one Rainbow Poke Bowl (the original packaging ones are now $9.98-from $6.98), one 1.5L SCB sake, one pack white bread thick cut, one Salmon Shioyaki bento, one pack ground pork (not sure why I bought this), one Yakisoba set, one Nigiri Combo 10pc (Sushi), and one pack Salmon fillet. Placed paper towels on each of the shelves, cleaned most of the bottles and cans before moving them back to the shelves, also threw away several old paint containers, old spray paint, and the red gasoline container (don't think we'll ever use it-as it has been lying there over 30 years), all of the remaining gallon paint cans are now under the bookshelf plus all 4 cans of Thompson Water Seal. Moved most of the scrap wood pieces (the ones that were kept in the white bucket) to the storage shed, rearranged the scrap boards so that the table saw can be placed closer to the wall. Only two things needed to be done-paper towel holder and extension wire hook.
2/14/2021: Got up at 7:10. Finished the bookshelf project-added umbrella storage hook, extension wire hook, and paper towel rack.
Attempting to modify (changing the band to hold ears instead of back of the head) one of the N95 mask stalled since I could not find the hot glue gun glue sticks. Rode 34 minutes bike-a record so far. Added $10.00 ($10.75 after tax) to Anita's T-mobile account just in case-it was at $0.04 again.
Called Anita at 4:15 for 53 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00, she did not want to speak to me? Peilee said she's been discontented with him the last hour, "easily became angry" is one of the symptom of Alzheimer disease.
2/15/2021: Got up at 7:49. Stopped by Costco at 9:30, the traffic light at Automation Parkway and Hostetter road was in flash mode so I cross it easily. There weren't many people as I expected, got one pack Beef Chuck Short Ribs, two dozen pastured eggs, three bag Kirkland thick beef jerky, one pack (x5) Champion boxer, and one can Nature's Bounty Fish Oil (was, surprisingly, on sale). Called Stephanie for 26 minutes getting info on Kung's mother, how is she taken care of...... Filled feeder with new Meow Mix tender center. The original size Rainbow Poke Bowl I purchased on Saturday turned out to be a misleading product, I thought since the smaller ones (in new containers) cost $6.98 so the larger ones ($9.98) should have more contents, instead it has less sashimi and a lot more rice, what a ripoff, note to self-never buy this again!!!!!! The second stimulus (Visa debit card) balance is now at:
2/16/2021: Got up at 7:08. Trimmed the Passion Fruit vines and tied some of them to allow our comfortable passage. Added one more magnetic strip to the drywall, making them the center storage for all kinds of drill bits.
Peddled bike for 30 minutes. Called Anita at 4:15 for 57 minutes. Called Mom at 6:00 for 2 hours and 10 minutes.
2/17/2021: Got up at 7:00. Left for Covid vaccine shot at 9:15 (even though my appointment was 10:15 and 10:00 arrival was recommended for registration, but I want to avoid Jason's mistake failing to find the place-which proved him simply did not do some planning), got there without any issue at 9:30, parking was OK as there were people leaving all the time, check and decided to wait until 9:50 to wait in line but probably should have started right away as the process was long-first line to verify appointment, second line to fill out info (4 pages for the first shot, 2 pages for the second), third line to wait to get in the building, 4th line to wait for shot, got the vaccine at 10:30, they require 15 minutes wait to make sure no unexpected symptoms, they also made appointment for the next shot, mine was on 3/19 12:45pm. The whole process was smooth. It took about one hour to finish (9:50-10:48), the entire task was from 9:15 to 11:05, not too bad.
Feeling a bit strange, mostly irregular heart beat, not sure if it's from the vaccine or the tea (too strong?) I drank though, but it got better several hors later, stopped riding bike after 10 minutes as my heart rate started going off beat again. Called Anita at 4:15 for 15 minutes. My upper arm began to show some pain just below the vaccine shot point, not serious but noticeable.
2/18/2021: Got up at 7:38. Stopped by Costco at 8:40, it's already open-not sure exactly when it opened even though the sign outside still claims 9:00-8:00?????? Purchased one bottle 1.75L Tequila, one pack Bibigo steamed dumpling, one bag thick beef jerky, one bottle Nature's Bounty Fish Oil (still $5 off), one set Flood light, one pack (x2) Flex Seal Spray, and one pack (x5) Champion boxer (M). Cleaned up the backyard a bit, put away the ladder under Oleander, next trimming will probably in the Fall. Called Anita at 4:15 for 6 minutes, she's getting ready to leave, she'll call after she's settled at TaoYuan airport. Received meat rub from Amazon at 5:47. Called Mom at 6:00 but recalled at 6:16 as she's busy, spoke to her for 44 minutes. Anita called during which but I could not call her back as there's no response-Skype or Line. Anita finally called at 7:31, boarding started at 12:12 (Taiwan time), flight UA872 took off at 12:56 (Taiwan time), 14 minutes ahead of schedule, the estimated arrival time will be 7:56am, 29 minutes ahead of schedule. Based on the new info, I'll need to get up at 6:30 and head toward SFO at 7:30.
2/19/2021: Got up at 6:15. Headed to SFO at 7:20, got there at 8:00, UA872 arrived at 7:46, Anita showed up at arrival gate at 8:20, got home at 9:05. Got a bad call during the process, quite serious in fact, maybe the light jacket I wore caused all this. Had a group Line call with Jenny and Peilee for 36 minutes, seemed to get a consensus on how to go about Mom's situation.
2/20/2021: Got up at 7:30. Tried but failed to enroll Anita to Valley Medical MyHealth online account since she never visited Valley. There were no available appointment (0) at Valley Health Center on Tully but surprisingly discovered they have plenty so I made on for Anita on 2:00 2/24.
Added Anita to Google Fi, pending her acceptation to invitation and the activation after receiving new sim card. The acceptation process wasn't straight forward, I had to un-invite after several failed attempts (still not sure why), re-invite using Anita's gmail account then accept invite to complete the process.
There are some limitations for iPhone on Google Fi though:
2/21/2021: Got up at 7:08. Finished reading Amazon First Reads "The Shadow in the Box". Called Mom at 7:36 for 54 minutes, she seemed to be back to her normal-overnight stay seemed to help some.
2/22/2021: Got up at 6:50. Visited Costco with Anita, the store will open at 9:00 instead of the earlier time now (not sure exactly when though) starting March 1st. Purchased one hand bananas, one bag organic Fuji Apple, one pack (x12) Artison bread, one pack Celery, one pack Asparagus, one tub cream cheese, one tub Chobani Yogurt, one bag Starbucks coffee, one flat Kirkland assorted cheese, and one box Raspberry Crumble cookies.
2/23/2021: Got up at 6:58. Visited Marukai with Anita (she went to La Patisserie Bakery to get some cake for my Birthday), Marukai did not have ANY Sashimi (not sure if they only provide them during the weekends), instead got one bag dry seaweed, one Salmon Shioyaki bento, one Yakisoba set, one Spider Roll, and one pack (x3) Salmon Kirimi cut. Birthday cake after lunch and bath:
Birthday dinner:
Called Mom at 6:00 then 6:16 for 47 minutes, her dizziness seemed to be better but appeared to have a headache.
2/24/2021: Got up at 7:08. Trimmed more older (leaves with yellow color) Passion Fruit vines. Took Anita to 1555 Berger drive (the Santa Clara County building) for Covid vaccine shot, left the house at 1:25, got there at 1:35, Anita's done at 2:12, really efficient-37 minutes compare to my one hour.
Anita's got Pfizer and her second shot is scheduled on 2:00pm 3/17, 2 days earlier than mine.
2/25/2021: Got up at 7:00. The strong wind yesterday and during the night knocked the fence steel beam off, discovered that the holes in it were bigger than than the screw heads, added a couple of washers and fixed the problem. Right eye bothering me much, removed the contact lens around 4:00 to lessen the pressure. Called Mom at 6:00 for 19 minutes.
2/26/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Marina Grocery with Anita, she got half a roast duck before heading to CVS to check out their wine collection, I got one bottle 750ml Taiwanese rice wine, one fried fish cake, one Turnip cake, two bag HFH crunchy and spicy chili/peanut (did not get any HFH spicy peanut as they only had size small), two packs boneless beef shank, one string garlic, one Cauliflower, 4 tomatoes, two pack stick rice dumplings (元宵), and one bag cheddar cheese. piked up 2 bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Moscato, one bottle 750ml Stella Rosa Tropical Mango, and one bottle 750ml Stella Rosa Berry semi-sweet wine from CVS. Was finally able to login to Anita's Valley Medical Mychart (their app) account-it appeared that they need some time to process (by human?) the new account sign up.
2/27/2021: Got up at 7:05. Trimmed off a couple of rose branches that were sticking into our back door neighbor's backyard.
2/28/2021: Got up at 6:25. Trimmed off low hanging Passion Fruit vines over the mid cross path between the two planter boxes, also the ones near the patio umbrella frame.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 19 minutes.
3/1/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by Costco with Anita, purchased one hand bananas, one large box (2x 5 lbs bag) of Oat Meal, two dozen pasture eggs, and one bag large tortilla, we could not find the Macadamia nuts that was on sale since 2/27, went through the entire store and asked several Costco workers, no luck, maybe we should try other stores. Trimmed off several Passion Fruit vines under the Patio Umbrella frame. Peilee called at 6:27 for 16 minutes, chatting about his new PC and handling stuff from his dorm. The Arlo Essential Spotlight camera I returned on 1/29 was finally "received" by Amazon today, thus the status of "refunded" is final. Ordered one renewed Arlo Pro 2 2-camera system from Amazon, $199 plus tax minus remaining gift card balance $91.75 (I don't remember this at all), $125.66 is cost to me.
3/2/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up most of the tiles in the backyard, they look much nicer now.
The scheduled delivery of Google Fi sim card was yesterday, but so far it is stuck near Fresno and there's no new delivery time yet. Anita's T-mobile account balance has dropped to $2.95.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 22 minutes.
3/3/2021: Got up at 7:00. Trimmed several more Passion Fruit vines, tied a couple of group of vines to raise their height above my head level. Anita's Google Fi sim card turned out to have a "Delivery Exception-incorrect address, street number", after calling FedEx and provided correct info, FedEx would deliver the package only after I contact Google and and Google contact FedEx, online chatted with Google representative, he suggested ordering another sim card or purchased one from Target or Bestbuy (with reimbursement). Received Arlo Pro 2 2-camera system from Amazon. Ordered another sim card from "fi.google.com/order-sim", it will take another week to get here-if nothing goes wrong, again!
3/4/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited ValleyFair with Anita, as usual we strolled through Nordstrom, Macys, and Anthropologie, the only thing Anita bought was a 4 count small metal cup that she liked, of course the first thing we did was getting some lunch at Koja Kitchen, they now have limited seat n the food court area, we had part of the purchase and the remaining will be our dinner.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 37 minutes.
3/5/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Walmart in Milpitas with Anita, got one bag Fuji Apple, one bag Parmesan cheese, one bag Croutons, one 12 lbs Meow Mix Tender center, one 16 lbs Meow Mix Original, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Riesling, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, 4 bottle 750ml Barefoot Riesling, and one bag Cranberry Almond. Started up Arlo Pro 2 base station, it's up after going through firmware upgrade, syncing one of the 2 Pro 2 camera did not work after several tries, tried the second Pro 2 camera and it sync almost immediately, tried the failed camera on Arlo Pro base station and it worked there, not sure why, both cameras went through firmware upgrade. Had to remove one of the legacy Arlo camera (drive-R) before adding new the second (previous failed) Pro 2 camera since Arlo only provide free 7-day video recordings for up to 5 cameras. Will need to replace the old Arlo camera with Pro 2, will have to use the semi-sphere magnetic mount, no additional stick was included in the package. There was a problem using the magnetic wall mount as there's no room to insert the USB power connector, I ended up using the original stick style mount, with that I'll have reuse the longer weather shield as the camera is now further away from the wall, also needed to add one additional hardware to make sure the shield does not bend upward whenever there's strong wind, install the other Pro 2 camera (that one that failed to sync with Pro 2 base station) under the work table just outside the family room sliding door to monitor the feeder.
3/6/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Marukai by myself (Anita attending Yoga class), purchased one bottle 1.5L SCB sake, one tube Wasabi sauce, one bag bean sprouts, one pack (x2) egg plants, one pack (x3) frozen Yakisoba (日式油麵), one pack (x5) Udon, one bag Edamame one pack (x2) Saba fillet, one bag sliced Renkon 蓮藕), one Yakisoba set, one Salmon Shioyaki bento, one bag Raisin stick, and one Futomaki (Maki Sushi)-waited 5 minutes for meals to be placed in the rack before I could grab them. Dropped the idea going to Marina Food to get HFH snacks as I spent too much time in Marukai. Filled (90% full) auto feeder with Meow Mix tender center, little addition to the can though. Removed the weather shield for the new Arlo Pro 2 camera, made a couple of add-on pieces and glued to the original to make the coverage better (1" or so).
Spray painted the underside of the new shield with black Flex Seal (black paint would be better), should be able to install it tomorrow. The Google Sim card is, once again delayed, stuck in Hayward this time, no new schedule for delivery.
3/7/2021: Got up at 7:06. Finished the weather shield for the new camera and installed it.
Called Mom at 6:00 for 23 minutes.
3/8/2021: Got up at 7:00. Received Google Fi Sim card for Anita-finally. Went through the activation process but for some reason [most likely I used my own gmail address which has tie to (408)228-7009)] Anita's iPhone now has my number, in other words I accidentally transferred my number here, major screwup-tried to fix it with several possible fixes. all of them failed, the new sim card is now tied to my gmail address. Ordered yet another Sim card from Google, seemed to be the only way to fix it-customer support was at minimal as stated in their website. Finished reading "Infinite"-Amazon First Reads.
3/9/2021: Got up at 6:55. Swept backyard leaves twice-preparing for incoming rain. Called Mom at 6:00 for 25 minutes.
3/10/2021: Got up at 7:00. All water buckets were full from the rain started late last night, it's a petty that we do not have more containers to collect more as the rain continues. We had a sudden, hard, and long sleet showing, possibly the largest and llongest I ever experienced here.
The rain continued in an on and off manner even now.
3/11/2021: Got up at 7:00. ATT network down, online status claimed nothing's wrong. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased one bag organic Fuji Apple, one hand bananas, one pack (x5) Artisan Lettuce, one pack (x6) sweet Pepper, two dozen pasture eggs, one bag thick beef jerky, one bag Macadamia nut, and one box Raspberries. Checked with ATT online with my Pixel phone through Google Fi, it still indicated nothing wrong with the Internet but they could not contact my gateway. Received Google Fi Sim card (the second one) through FedEx.
3/12/2021: Got up at 7:00. Chatted with ATT representative online and resulted a new gateway being ordered, hopefully this will solve the problem. Made my Pixel phone a hot spot and connected Anita's iPad, iPhone, and eventually my MacBook Pro to finish Anita's phone account transfer to Google Fi, took over one hour as there were some issues with T-mobile account info which I needed to fill in for Google to do the transfer, turned out the required account number was Anita's phone number (for pre-paid phone) and Tina Lin was the user name and 9458 was the pin number (instead of 7009 which I used when processing my transfer). Paid LS400 DMV registration renewal fee of $171 plus processing fee $3.69, need to confirm payment had been completed as I accidentally hit back key.
3/13/2021: Got up at 7:00. Walked to 99 Ranch Market and picked up one strip pork rib and one Napa cabbage while Anita attending her Yoga class on Zoom. I need to walk more as my blood pressure seemed to stay high most of the time. Received new ATT gateway from FedEx around 10:20-their Overnight express, plugged in the cable and ethernet wires, checked the access-voila, it worked right away without my additional effort, the Wi-Fi feature remained off as the last gateway (obviously ATT has all the information necessary to duplicate the original features. Will try to turn on the Wi-Fi feature later. First speed test was exceptionally high, hope it stay that way.
It turned out the wi-Fi feature had already been turned on (2WIRE842), I changed the password to xxxxacyyyy!?.
3/14/2021: Got up at 7:55. Daylight saving starts today. Jason delivered 3 head Celery and one pack Mozzarella cheese. Walked 30 minutes-Vinci Parkway, Berryessa, Junesong, Springsong, Autumsong and back. Called Mom at 7:00 for 46 minutes including 30 minutes with Peilee.
3/15/2021: Got up at 8:04. Returned the broken ATT gateway through UPS store on Berryessa-to avoid $150 charge as they claimed if not received within 21 days after new device had been ordered.
3/16/2021: Got up at 7:35. Speed test through ssc1746 (and 2WIRE510) seemed faster than goning directly through 2WIRE842 for some reason.
SSC1746:
2WIRE842:Walked 22 minutes around the blocks - Septembersong, Vinci Parkway, Ribisi Way (the street just before Berryessa Road), Junesong, Springsong, Autumnsong, Septembersong, this route is 8 or 9 minutes shorter than taking Berryessa Road. My blood pressure has been around 140, 150 range lately, it may have something to do with lack of exercise, ate too much sodium rich snack (HFHs for example), and much fewer MB (?), need to figure how to move it down to at least 130 level soon. Called Mom at 7:00 for
3/17/2021: Got up at 7:10. Picked off the last 3 Passion Fruits from the vines with telescoping pruner, 2 of them were still in light green but simply wanted to finish them all and let them start over. Took Anita to her second Pfizer shot at Berger, it's even faster than last time, possibly because new first shot appointments were not available, total time from leaving home to back was 32 minutes (1:21-1:53).
3/18/2021: Got up at 7:33. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased one pack (x8) Danish, one bag organic Fuji Apple, one hand bananas, two dozen pasture eggs, one box (x12) Noosa Yogurt, one pack (x30) Charmin bathroom tissue, and one pack (x8) Jimmy Dean Meat Lover breakfast bowl. Current stimulus debit card balance is at $224.64.
Rode 32 minutes bike, trying to bring down my blood pressure, it has been consistently stuck at 140/150 range. Called Mom at 7:00 for 22 minutes. Received 100W equivalent LED light bulb from Amazon at 7:29. Verified that the 6 LEDs just received work (at least was able to light up) OK.
3/19/2021: Got up at 7:30. Suffering from irregular heart beat this morning, one of the worst in recent months. Anita came with me to VHC on Tully for my second Covid Moderna shot, left the house at 11:50, got there at 11:08, half of the parking lot was empty (possibly due to vaccine shortage and first time appointment s were not available), filled out single page form and got in the building in 5 minutes, got the shot at 10:34, got out after 15 minutes ill-symptom wait time, got home at 1:12, a total of 82 minutes (1:12-11:50). Put the Vaccination Record Card with my passports in the study room.
So far there wasn't any discomfort except a little pain at the needle point.
3/20/2021: Got up at 7:15. Stopped by Marina Food in Cupertino, got 6 bag HFH spicy peanuts and 4 bag HFH crunch chili/peanut, they used to have a lot of the crunch ones outside in a big box, I had to ask a worker there to find out they are on the shelf now, and only about 10 of them in total. Swing by Marukai and purchased one pack thick slice bread, one pack uncut Lotus root, one pack Jalapeño chili, one Yakisoba set, one Salmon Shioyaki bento, one pack Nama Sake Kirimi, one pork cutlet, one shrimp tempura roll, and two bottle 1.5L SCB sake. Our Visa debit card balance is now at $136.76.
3/21/2021: Got up at 7:27. Body ache seemed to be easing off but fatigue took over. Rode 10 minutes bike. Called Mom at 7:00 but she's at the hospita for a checkup, chatted with Ahfen for 15 minutes regarding her recent surgery and other issues.
3/22/2021: Got up 7:05. Filled up RX300 at Costco for $3.599 per gallon, it was $2.999 the last time I did so on 2/11/2021. Got a cold possibly right after breakfast. Laying low and keep warm is the only goal for today. Received orders (portable sawing machine and lint remover) received from Amazon at 2:16.
3/23/2021: Got up at 7:08. Vaccine shot symptoms appeared to be gone. Received finger splint support from Amazon at 12:41. Gusty winds all day, cleaned backyard fallen leaves twice but they came right back. Called Mom at 7:00 but there was remodel going on upstairs disturbing the conversation so we decided to try another day.
3/24/2021: Got up at 7:00. FedEx notified my package (the Google Fi Sim card I ordered on 2/21/2021) has been delivered but I did not see anything in the front porch, it turned out they delivered it back to the sender in Illinois, really stupid! Received LS400 new sticker from DMV, but there was no back glue lie the ones before, I had to use regular glue to attach it to the plate, not sure why they did it this way?????? Walked the neighborhood-Septembersong court->Autumnsong->Vinci Parkway->Berryessa Road->Junesong->Springsong->Autumnsong->Septembersong, took only 26 minutes-possibly because I walked faster??????

Anita picked up one 750ml Barefoot Riesling, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot, one bottle Barefoot Pinot Noir, and 3 bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon. Called Mom at 7:00 for 38 minutes, she seemed happier except for the reading glass she got, she thought of getting one that can be wore indoor and outdoor.
3/26/2021: Got up at 7:10. Cleaned up leftover garden waste in the street-Mr. Kim had already done some sweeping of the larger leftovers, I picked up smaller pieces and dust/sand. Filled the feeder, cleaned its weather shield with water. The black round bucket still leaks on one of the corners, need to apply more Flex Seal to it after sundry. Visited ValleyFair with Anita, had light lunch at Koja Kitchen with dinner salad packed, Anita purchased one bottle perfume by Jo Malone, the backpack she had her eye on at Nordstrom is also available but $31 cheaper. Walked the neighborhood-Septembersong court->Autumnsong->Vinci Parkway->Berryessa Road->Junesong->Springsong->Autumnsong->Septembersong, took 25 minutes (2:21-2:46), one minute faster than Thursday. Tried but downloaded the wrong app which I thought was OpenOffice IOS version-Office Suite, they'll charge $29.99 per year for the app, I wasn't able to try it out because it requires signing up for a 7-day trial then $29.99 per year, luckily found out the true OpenOffice was "Office 700" which only charges one time $7.99 for complete license, will purchase it when Anita's new iPad Air/Pro is acquired.

Mom broke her wrist while getting up for some water at 3:00am, got cast for now before seeing a bone doctor Monday morning.

Helping dyed Anita's hair. Called Mom at 7:00 for 23 minutes-I mentioned my hair cut and Anita's hair dye, she seemed more interested.
6/7/2021: Got up at 7:00. Watered cucumber baby plants. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers, the compost bin is almost full even after I used some of it the other day.
6/8/2021: Got up at 7:00. Starting today (until water rationing becomes reality) front lawn watering will start early in the morning, and twice a week (every Tuesdays and Fridays). It's Anita's birthday. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased one bunch flowers, one box Blueberry, and one Solar hat (for myself). Had 10 minutes MB with legs, EJ. Made scallop, stuffed bell pepper for Anita's Birthday dinner.
Called Mom at 7:00 for 17 minutes. Peilee called at 7:46 for 12 minutes, some on Mom and some on the Google Chromecast plus TV device.
6/9/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers, there are still new flowers falling even after I vigorously shook the trees before cleaning. Watered the cucumber plants and the baby Passion Fruit plants, current Passion Fruit plant appeared to take over the nutrients from entire planter box because nothing else seemed to be able to grow healthy. Called Peilee for 39 minutes, half the time on Mom's issues (not eating, complaining about food, and everything else), half the time on Covid virus issues.
6/10/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Marina Grocery, purchased one bottle 750ml Taiwanese rice wine, two pack pin noodle, 4 bags HFH spicy peanuts, 2 pack chicken wings, two pack pork baby back ribs, one bunch green onion, one bunch Cilantro, 4 tomatoes, one bag dried fungus, one bag Mexican sugar,7 Jalapeño, and one small pack preserved radish. Called Mom at 7:18 (she was busy at the washing machine when I called at 7:00) for 25 minutes.
6/11/2021: Got up at 7:00. Did ValleyFair mall shopping with Anita, boy, it's crowded just like weekends, had lunch at Raam in Nordstrom, similar route-Nordstrom->Macys->Anthropologie->home. Played 50 minutes table tennis with Robert (YingShin) at his home, discovered his wife will be officially retire in two weeks, and he will be retiring in about 10 months.
6/12/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by 99 Ranch Market but did not see desirable Korean BBQ beef, swing by H Mart and got one pack Marinated Beef short ribs (for Monday BBQ), and one box small Sushi roll for lunch. Had 10 minutes MB with hands and legs, EJ. Discovered we already have 3 Passion Fruit growing (2 quite big and one smaller). Watered baby cucumber plants. Ordered Chromecast with Google TV, had to cancel one because I thought the order would not go out without pressing confirmation, since I received two e-mails indicating two orders, hopefully one is still active, will find out soon.
6/13/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers. Cleaned patio furniture with water, need to re-glue one of the benches as all of the wood pieces was detached. Peilee called at 8:15 for 12 minutes, discussing vaccine shot issues for Mom.
6/14/2021: Got up at 7:00. Prepared salsa (tomatoes, corn, and Jalapeño), baked chicken wings in the small oven but probably should move them onto the grill as many of them stuck to the pan. Covered the patio table with an old table cloth, secured a coupe of the boards that were warped with screws so that they do not move during meal. Grilled the already oven-roasted chicken wings to make them more appealing, will just reheat in the microwave oven before meal time. ChiMing arrived just over 4:00pm, IShin did not show up until 4:23, we started BBQ dinner after playing Majong until 5:37, since ChiMing's wife's busy at home so we have more than enough food (looks like I don't need to cook for the rest of the week), the Korean BBQ beef was very tasty (although a bit costly-~$3 per piece, there were 10 of them for ~$28). Resumed playing Majong after dinner, game ended at 9:30, we chatted a while before saying goodbye.

Received the replacement lock for the door to the garage, it doesn't seem to work-could not turn the knobs at all......, After fumbling the new lock with key, I was able to turn the knobs, I'll need to chip away some wood from the original opening in the door to fit the new hardware tomorrow.
Suffering from yet another cold since this morning, damn!
6/17/2021: Got up at 7:00. Watered cucumber plants and roses, trimmed off withered roses. Visited Costco by myself as Anita's having a sore throat, just to be careful. Purchased one pack (x6) organic Romaine lettuce, one pack (x12) Raspberry Crumble cookies, one box grape tomatoes, two bag thick beef jerky, one tub cream cheese, and two dozen pasture eggs. Francisco showed up at 10:25, almost 2 hours earlier than his usual time-likely to beat the heat. Installed the new lock, had to chip away some wood on the door to allow the center hardware rectangular plate to fit (the original lock did not have such plate), also the latch hole on the door frame has to be adjusted to work with the lower latch, applied compound joint paste to fix the leftover mess.
Called Mom at 7:00, Sharon told me Mom is going back for a doctor's visit this morning, chatted with her for a couple of minutes.

Cleaned up Milly's vomit (second time in two days), watered cucumber plants, pollinated a number of Passion Fruit flowers, also discovered about 10 small PFs. Still could not use link provided by Halo on "Line" to get vaccine record QRCode, giving up, instead I revisited www.myhealthonline.sccgov.org and got copies of both mine and Anita's record in PDF format, stored them under Google Drive "001-Travel info/Passport & Visa/Covid-19" and made them available offline. Tried getting QR Codes again with the link provided by Halo, this time using my gmail and Anita's yahoo mail and it worked, got both QR Codes and uploaded them to Anita and my Google Drives (and made them available offline), it was a bit challenging as Anita's iPhone did not have Google Drive and Google Photo.
6/20/2021: Got up at 7:00. Transplanted Japanese seedlings (that were still in small containers) to the planter box under the Cherry tree, transplanted Burpee seedlings (3 total, one large, one medium, and one small) to the planter box under the fake Cherry tree. Had to lie down in bed for about an hour as the combination of my sinus, irregular heart beat and toothache making me very uncomfortable. Rented "Nomadland" from Amazon Prime video for $2.99 (a Prime Day discount from $$5.99), we have 30 days to start watching but need to finish it within 48 hours once started viewing. Had 10 minutes MB with hands and legs, EJ. Tried but failed to install Chromecast plus TV on Sony TV, it kept complaining losing network connection, likely because the location where the HDMI port is located was blocking the Wi-Fi signal, I had to give up and install it on the Vizio TV in the dinning room, there was no connection problem but the whole process (installing apps, updating system software......) took nearly one hour, but it was successful, I also installed PlutoTV, logout Sling account from Roku device then re-login on Chromecast plus TV, the response of getting in and out of each app (Sling, Youtube, PlutoTV....) was fast, only if I could make it work on Sony......Hmm

Received Strawberry flavored Bubly (x18) and Aqua lawn sprinkler from Amazon at 1:16. Received iPad case for Anita at 3:26. The new iPad case was designed terribly-half of the openings did not match Anita's iPad Air so I gave her my iPad cover and tried the crappy case, it's a little better but the volume control opening did not match, after failing to fix her old cover with super glue I decided to fix the new case by cutting the volume control opening center bar off, it worked afterward. Watered the front lawn with the new sprinkler, it's a bit awkward having to adjust the location of the thing and the width control, there's simply no optimal placement and width control as the lawn isn't large enough, need to try more times before finding a solution-lawn water time was nearly one and half hours.
7/31/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by La Patisserie and got one whole Burnt Almond-just did not realize it cost $45, Wow! Swing by Marukai and purchased one pack carrots, 7 Baby Bok Choy, 2 Hamachi Kama, one pack lean ground pork, and one Futomaki, no other meals were available. Went to ChiMing's house at 4:05, played Majong until 10:10 with about one hour for dinner, I lost all my chips but Anita won about the same amount.
8/1/2021: Got up at 7:08. Discovered there was one Japanese cucumber at the back of the plants, well hidden by one of the larger leaves which I trimmed off the other day, there were a couple of potential young female flowers waiting to be pollinated. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers, also trimmed off all baby branches near the trunks. Applied fertilizer (made by Anita) to all cucumber plants. Received Anita's iPad protection screen at 4:03. Called Mom at 7:00 for 20 minutes, she had another fall last night, luckily it wasn't serious. Spoke to Peilee on her condition, her description may be a little off though-no doctor's visit at all. The Amazon Fire tablet I left for Mom to view photo seemed to be broken, need to find a way (eg. App) for the viewing capability to continue on another platform.
8/2/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers. Had another ant attack around 2:30, the dry shrimp I left on the cooktop initiated their action, took me over one hour to clean up, but the pest repellent spray did not seem to work, maybe I did not shake the can enough before using, a few ants were still coming out from the crack. Of the three Amazon accounts: patrick_lin100@yahoo.com is my Prime account, patricklin100@gmail.com seemed to be hacked-if I login to Amazon photos, it's turn to a .de account which I have no knowledge of, pclin200@gmail.com account is dedicated photos viewing for Mom, so far so good.

Received Anker 5-port USB charger. Called Mom at 7:00 for 24 minutes.
8/6/2021: Got up at 7:00. No table tennis as Robert has errands to run. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers, marked 4 more PFs, making the total 42. 8/14/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by Marukai at 9:20-intentionally later than usual but there's still no ready made meals, I had to check out with my other purchases (4 heads Broccoli, one hand bananas, one bag Edamame, one pack thick slice bread, one bag carrots, one pack Ara cuttings, one bag bean sprouts, and one pack Petrale Sole), waited in my car for 15 minutes and went back in, the ready made meals are available now, got one pork Tonkatsu, one Unagi Futomaki, one Yakisoba set, and one Salmon Shioyaki bento. There were police vehicles blocking Berryessa near the Flea Market entrance, I had to make a left from no-left turn lane to get to Sierra and detour back to home. Filled feeder and small bucket.

8/30/2021: GOT UP AT 7:00. Played 80 minutes table tennis with Robert-trying 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) see how it goes. One of the Arlo Pro 2 camera connected to Pro 2 base station had been in no response mode for a couple days, after some investigation I discovered it can be connected to Arlo Pro 1 base station just as the Feeder (another Pro 2 camera) and function normally, but won't function if reconnected to Pro 2 base station, my conclusion was that the Pro 2 base station was broken and probably why it could not connect "Feeder" in the first place when I installed the system the first time, powered down Pro 2 base station and put it away in the study closet for now, also removed the battery from the Driveway-R camera for easy reset (only need to unplug the power cord) when needed. The original Amazon tablet is now completely dead, nothing happens even with power plugged in-the slow response started a few weeks ago should be an indication of this coming.
8/31/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco by myself, purchased one box grape tomatoes, one box Blueberry, and two bottle 750ml Stella Rosa Imperiale Moscato Sweet. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers. Processed Jade Bitter Lemons, half for pickling and half for later, the bitterness still strong even after soaking them in salt and water?????? Processed Jalapeño, removed half the skin and all of the seeds, wrapped the halves in plastic bag for later. Had 10 minutes MB with RM, EJ-good one. Still unable to open the trunk from inside the car, not sure if it's broken or some settings were wrong?????? Checked online and read the owner's manual, inserted the master key next to the trunk lid open latch and turned left, this released the latch-I probably accidentally pressed the button which disabled the latch, it's OK now. Called Mom at 7:00 for 17 minutes, had to retry as the first one was noisy and could not be used. Watered front lawn for 40 minutes.
9/1/2021: Got up at 7:00. Played 90 minutes table tennis with Robert without break, this is a record. Marked 4 PFs-two small ones and two large ones, making the total 50. Started to look into Covid-19 requirements for Germany and Italy.
9/2/2021: Got up at 7:00. Filled up RX300 for $3.899/gal at Costco before stopping by Walmart, got one hand bananas, 4 bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, one bottle 1.5L Yellow tail Cabernet Sauvignon, and one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Riesling, wing by Marina Grocery and purchased 2 white peaches, 3 Fuji Apple, 3 bag HFH crunchy chili/peanut, and 10 bag HFH spicy peanuts. Had 10 minutes MB with legs, EJ-another good one with #7 video. Decided to actively prepare for the upcoming trip to Italy regardless of what may happen during the last two weeks. Spent a couple of hours finishing NCL check-in, mainly for selecting time slot entering the terminal (we selected 11:00-11:30) and Covid-19 test registration, we got the QR code (for testing) and completed all required info but the app still asks me to checkin KwangMing Chang, need to call NCL tomorrow.

9/5/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers (mostly flowers). The IKEA induction cooktop I installed 10 years ago had an issue while I was preparing dinner-the cooktop automatically shuts off without any obvious reason and started beeping every few seconds, I checked and checked but could not find any way to turning it back on, the process of unplugging the power hit a problem since I could not remove the drawer to access the plug, looked up online and discovered the cause may be something blocking or touching the control pad, sure enough there was a drop of water (most likely left there while I pour the bitter melon into the pot) on top of the touch pad, wiped if off and voila, it worked again. Called Mom at 7:00 for 24 minutes.
9/6/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers. Received the 8" silicone bowl from Amazon at 1:47, it's a little bigger than I expected but maybe we can also use it in our kitchen daily.

Filled two 3 oz bottle (purchased at Target the other day) with Paul Mitchell shampoo (50% water), to be used during the trip-I don't remember if this is needed as I forgot how we shampoo our hair before. Booked Italia regional train from Rome Termini to Civitavecchia tickets, will take 48 minutes (the high-speed ones take 47 minutes). Called Mom at 7:00 for 17 minutes, she let me off early to keep cool down stairs. Booked Civitatours bus from Civitavecchia cruise port to Rome FCO airport (50,00 Euro). Anita filled out EU Passenger Locator Form, made print copy and digital copy on my Google Drive.
Watered front lawn and porch flowers for 43 minutes.
9/8/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased one box grape tomatoes, one box Blueberry, two dozen pasture eggs, one tub cream cheese, one pack (x8) Danish, one can Nature's B complex, and one bottle Fish oil. Filled 5 gallons Octane 91 into LS400. Booked transportation from Rome FCO to Romantic Dreams Guest House.
Moved iMac to the attic, moved. the old iMac to Anita's desk. Pest controlled kitchen and master bathroom. Found out accessing Romantic Dreams Guest House in Rome requires Internet connection, hopefully our Google Fi works.

9/11/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned master bedroom floor with mop and vacuum. Filled out Geico Annual Mileage and Odometer Certification form through e-mail "R4ANNUALMILEFAX.geico.com".
9/12/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers, wipe cleaned downstairs restroom mirror and sink-our Living Trust lawyer and witness are coming for signing. Parker and Rose (as witness) came by at 11:00, we went through the document and made required signature/initial, finger prints, finished the whole thing in one hour. Photo scanned the three pages Parker requested and mailed to him. Booked 250 Internet minutes on NCL Getaway for $105, we each also have 30 minutes free one. Called Mom at 7:00 for 17 minutes.
9/13/2021: Got up at 7:00. Steamed 6 eggs, processed beef with fat cutouts fried. Harvested 6 about-to-fall PFs on vines so that we won't miss them when they fall naturally while we are away. Discovered I need to fill out my own EU PLF form online, spent hours doing it as the process was extremely awkward plus I did not have seat assignment on the second flight, after beating myself for an hour I decided to just enter "unassigned" in the seat number column and it took that, finished the process and discovered Anita had several incorrect entries in her 9/7 filing, persuaded her to refile but failed miserably-the changes simply would not show up, we decided to still use the old file on entry and United's upload, I tried again on my Mac Pro and was able to finish a new filing (with my e-mail address which I could not change for some reason), the resulting submission was good, as I was going to print the file, Anita discovered the new filings she did 30 minutes ago actually had correct result with delayed mail to her, decided to use that one instead, however failed to print the third page (the print simply would not print after receiving the file), had to use an old third page (which happen to be the same) and made up a make-shift print version, as long as the first page (with QR Code) is correct, we should be OK. A note on the printer run out of Cyan color, the printer stopped printing anything right after the first two pages were printed, discovered we still have a new Cyan cartridge in our possession, made the replacement and it's fine.
9/14/2021: Got up at 7:00. Tried to upload EU PLF files through United but it would not allow indicating 72 hours frame has been reached, it's obvious they treat 12:05PM Germany time as our location time, hopefully it will work at 12:05 our time. Just realized 72 hours frame begins tomorrow, not today:-(. Successfully uploaded both of our EU PLF files through United, pending their review and notification of acceptance, uploaded Anita's Vaccine record but it appears that was not necessary, only PLF and Covid-19 negative test are required. Tried to fill out digital registration online for Germany entry, found out we do not need to do anything to get to our connecting flight to Rome but coming back maybe a different story as we will be in Greece which is considered high risk area plus we'll be staying at Hilton Garden Inn Frank Airport which appears to be inside the Germany- may have to fill out digital registration form and upload Vaccine records a few days (10/1-10/3) before we got to Frankfurt on 10/4/2021. Watered front lawn and porch flowers for 45 minutes.
9/15/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard Oleander leaves and flowers. Headed out to CareNow at 1:10 for Covid test, there was road construction on our way, took twice as long to get there, turned out CareNow not doing Covid test for the rest of the day, we'll have to come back tomorrow morning. Since the road work was pretty bad we decided to take a different route, but it's worse than the usual route, it took us 45 minute to get home. Need to come up with a plan B if we still have problem getting tested tomorrow at CareNow. Received Geico confirming the two annual mileage info I sent the other day, no additional action need from me, should be keeping the same low rate. Updated Sony DSC-HX90V date/time to Rome local time.
9/16/2021: Got up at 6:30, trying to get. ahead start on Covid test. Left for CareNow at 7:30, got there at 7:45, there were 6 people ahead of us already, filled out the forms required for the visit and we were let in and wait, Anita got in for the test at 9:17 while I got in at 9:23, the test went OK and I got out with negative test result at 9:53, just a few minutes behind Anita. Scanned the images for keep on Google Drive and uploaded pages 4 of the report (which included required info) through United App-still had make photo copies in order to work on iPad. Got confirmation from United that the uploaded documents were OK.
Filled up auto feeder. Checked in United flight UA58 for tomorrow, but since we could not scan our passports, we'll still need to go to a Kiosk or counter for passport processing before getting our boarding passes. Tried passport scan again with Pixel, patiently and steadily hold the phone and it worked, checked and uploaded both of our passport photos and I was able to check in and got boarding passes-mobile and paper (e-mail), even I got seat assignment 16D and 18C for Anita on Lufthansa flight LH234.
2021 NCL 11-Day Greek Isles & Italy from Rome
09172021/09182021: Got up at 7:00. Had everything checked and ready by 9:00. Mr Shu came at 10:30 to pick us up (he parked in the street instead, I had to go out and ask him to come up to the driveway). Arriving SFO at 11:10. Even though we have already checked in but all documents (vaccination record, PLF, COVID test result, passport) still need checked by United counter personnel, went through security check swiftly. Had Ramen at Tomokazu, walked twice around the course before settling down at gate G7. UA58 was late arriving so the departure time is delayed by 19 minutes. New delay is 39 minutes. UA58 actually took off at 2:59. This flight appeared to be 60% full, Anita took another seat across the isle from me-row 54 belongs to her. We landed at Frankfurt (FUR) at 10:10. The flight taxied for nearly 20 minutes before getting to shuttle stop, the shuttle took another 7 minutes and dropped out off at termal A, walked about 5 minutes getting to passport check, it was a breeze though, gate A13 was only 2 minutes away, we got there at 10:50. Flight LH234 was behind schedule for about 15 minutes but we actually arrived FCO 2 minutes ahead of schedule. There was no more security or passport check, brought our luggages to exit 2 and met our pick up driver (booked through Bookings.com), the trip to RomAntic Dreams Guest House took 25 minutes, we had some problem getting into the building as they use virtual key for building and apartment entries, someone came out of the building while we were struggling to figure out why, we went in the building and followed the instruction for the apartment and it worked, room still required key which was left on the door. We later found out why it did not work for the building, we pressed the wrong door bell-get Vkey app ready, press building icon, press correct apartment number (#12 but we pressed #3 the first time so it never worked) than press “OK” on the App, there were also a couple of information which was not mentioned in corresponding messages, one is how to get out of the apartment, we also struggled and had to ask another teniente to help, turned out there was a button on the side of the door that says “exit”, that’s all we need to press to unlock the apartment door, another was the Wi-Fi password which was also on a paper pasted on the inside of the apartment door. We rested until 6:15 and went out to look for Carrefour Express, it took a while and asking around, it was much closer than I expected, we got one bottle of Merlot, 4 fresh eggs, and one hand bananas. Had 2 Neoguri seafood noodle plus wine for dinner.
09192021: Got up several time during the night, had to finish the leftover wine before going back to sleep, got up at 6:05. The $5 per person breakfast was a bit over priced-one croissant and one bread. The Nespresso machine appeared to be broken. We each had a cup of tea from their tea bag racket. Checked out nearby Metro station at Piazza dei Re di Roma, will use it tomorrow to joint Bigbus Hop on Hop off at Termini Roma (central bus/train station). The guest house host (?) Nishitha told us we has checked in the wrong room, that’s why someone (likely the real room tenant) was trying to open our door last night, he moved our stuff to room 3 (our assigned room) while we were out, room 3 is smaller and without a balcony but the curtain closes. Purchased a bottle of wine, two Gala apple and one box grape tomatoes at Carrefour Express, got several dishes (one piece of fried lamb, one small order of Calamari, one small order peeled pepper, and one small order eggplant lasagna) from Papero Giallo SJC for lunch. Checked any book Hop on Hop off tickets for tomorrow online, meeting point is near Termini Roma, it was lucky that I checked since most (if not all ticket offices were closed due to COVID-19.
9/20/2021: Got up at 7:00 with several wake ups. Had the same croissant for breakfast again, really not appealing and expensive. Anita seemed a bit sick from that and had to rest a little before heading out to Re Di Roma Metro station around 8:50, got two tickets for € 1.5 each, red line toward Battistini, four stops reaching Roma Termini, got out and happened to see BigBus tour bus, we followed it to its stop, there was a problem, since I did not notice there were two vouchers I only copied one and they required both to print the second ticket,I tried and tired but could not find the second voucher, as I was giving up, the ticket checker offered us to go on the bus as it had to start moving out and try it on board, purchase another ticket if still out of luck, I tried 10 more minutes and told the lady attendant I was willing to pay for another ticket, she asked to check the rest of our order info which says 2 adults, she wrote her name and some description on the first ticket so that we could still get on and off with this single ticket. We ended up staying on the bus for two full cycles before getting off at Roma Termini, got two tickets and, searched for the correct platform for several minutes, got on red line heading Anagnina, got to Re Di Roma in 10 minutes, by the way, Rome Metro only has two lines, red and blue, we were at red line route. Purchased two pieces of Italian pizza before getting back to RomAntic Dreams Guest House. Got hair dryer and liquid soap (actually the same body/shampoo) from Sishintha, also found out how to control column with the new controller.
9/21/2021: Got up at 6:00. They changed breakfast to sandwich, not great but better. Walked uphills in the neighborhood, their apartments buildings looked nice, it’s neighborhood market appeared to be a smaller version of Taiwanese traditional market. Had pizza for lunch, this store makes more tasty ones, will come back for dinner. Anita lost her eye glasses, suspecting it wasn’t moved over when Nishitha moved our luggages and everything else, but did not see it in room 1 when Nishitha came over. Started packing, did not appear to have more room since 4 bags of fast noodle and 2 large bags of HFH snacks were gone. We decided to take Metro to Roma Termini tomorrow morning instead of using a taxi to reduce anxiety, but have to leave earlier (possibly before 8:30) to beat the crowd. Anita found her eye glasses, it fell off under the bed. Went with Anita and purchased two more pieces of pizza, we splinted 1.5 pieces, including the leftover 0.5 piece, we’ll have a full piece for breakfast. Finished most packing, plan to head out toward Re Di Metro station around 8:20.
9/22/2021: Got up at 6:00, I barely slept through the night, going to be tired. Left for Re Di Metro station at 8:20. We took the elevator down to the Metro station, a guy followed us into the elevator, he stood behind me and trying to touch the control button, I later found out he was one the thief’s trying to get something from my backpack, the evidence was one of the zippers was open even though I had a piece of Velcro securing it, luckily nothing was taken from, thank God. Anita got on the train before the door closed, I had to take the next one which was only one minute away. We met at Roma Termini, found out they only let people onto the platform 40 minutes before departure, also I looked around and found the correct entrance (high speed vs regional) to get in, train 36966 was to depart from platform 21, we got on carriage 2 which was at the far end of the train, luckily it wasn’t too far away, got to our seats 15C and 15D at 9:40. The train departed at 10:00, 3 minutes behind schedule. Arriving Civitavecchia at 10:43, pre booked taxi picked us up right outside the station exit, got to B&B Colors at 10:52. Anita decided we need to pay 50 Euros more for the tour driver to pick us at B&B Colors and send us back here after the tour. Anita likes the tour but was a bit tired so we asked Andrea to take us back to B&B Colors. This B&B only has 3 rooms (red, green, and blue as they were named), appeared to be recently remodeled in good taste. Anita and I went out looking for a grocery store as most if not all restaurants opens at 7:00 pm which is way too late for us, asked around and found “Pam” market about 5 minutes from B&B Colors, good some ready to eat food and a bottle of Rosé, finished them all except a small glass of Rosé.
9/23/2021: Got up at 6:00. Had toast and wafer plus coffee for breakfast. Anita called and cancelled the taxi as I recommended walking by ourselves, it should not take more than 15 minutes, but as it turned out, with or without taxi, we’ll be challenged, first, there was no sign for pedestrians as to how to get to the cruise port, with Google Map, we were able to get close and after some consulting with friendly Italians, we reached the shuttle bus stop, there was no body waiting there, and all buses simply went by without stopping, finally we asked a passing by lady who appeared to be nice, she flagged down one empty bus going toward the port and got us up this e bus, but at the entrance point, the guard stopped the bus and asked for info, after minutes, checking our papers, we were let in, {A note on getting to Civitavecchia port: it’s easy if you arrive on the embarkation day, once you get off the train, there’ be shuttle bus taking you directly to the port, but there’s no such bus on non-embarkation day, if you have to do it like what we did-walking all the way(possibly on the left side of the road after getting close the the gate) to the guard post where they check your papers and you can keep walking to the ship embarkation building} we got off at NCL process center, first wait in line for boarding pass check, wait in line for vaccine passport (our CDC vaccine record), another line for antigen test, one more line to wait for test result (the result was to come out in about 15 minutes, Anita’s result came out in 17 minutes but mine kept on hold, as I was worried, many people started showing the lady in charge with cell phone and got approved with hand bands, realizing they got e-mail informing about the result was ready, I searched my Gmail and voila, there was one e-mail regarding the test, but I have problem open the file as it asked me to enter my birthday as passport, DD-MM-YYYY format was what it requested, My instinct was typing 23021953, but it failed again and again, finally I realized my mistake and entered 23-02-1953 and it worked, show this to the lady and got my hand band, this process took nearly half an hour, yesterday another line for checking in NCL, they went through the passport, endocrine, vaccine proof, sign our names, took photos-most of them had been done online-it took another 15 minutes, we got our key cards finally, next line to submit passport for exit stamp by Italian official, next line to surrender our passports, we’ll get them back after we reenter Italy <at Naples, maybe?>, the last line was to get on NCL Getaway, got to our stateroom 5116 at 12:45, nearly 4 hours after we left B&B Colors. Put our luggages in the stateroom and hurried to Garden Cafe, we were starved. Booked both complementary latitude meals, Le Bistro on 9/26 at 6:00, and La Cucina on 1/10 at 6:00. The layout (stateroom style & size, deck design, and location of important facilities) was quite different, it’ll take us a while to figure out. We did not set sail until 5:15, 15 minutes behind schedule, I went up to decks 15, 16 but was disappointed as there nothing onshore to see, went back to the stateroom and got Anita to dinner at 5:15. After dinner, we went to Atrium (it is on deck 6 instead of 7 as on both Jade and Spirit and found out Latitude Member cocktail, behind-the-scene tour were all cancelled, and we were informed that only people joint ship excursion can go on Italy ports hNapes and Livorno). Since the only excursion we booked for Santorini was cancelled, we did not want to stay on ship on both Italy ports, I started searching available excursions on NCL app, but the two I found would not allow me to finish booking, always indicated error…… I grabbed my iPad and went up to Atrium excursion counter and successfully booked both of them with a lady’s help. Photo copies of passport and vaccine card must be carried with us.
9/24/2021: Got up at 7:01-with many wake up moments during the night. Had breakfast at Garden Cafe at 7:30, no patrons are allowed to touch any food or utensils, they must be served by ship crews. Login to Internet access by entering my name, birthday, and stateroom number, the Latitude complimatory 30 minutes as well as the purchased 250 minutes showed up, Anita can login with her name to access her 30 minutes as well. Planning to walk up to deck 15 sun deck but had to take the elevator at deck 10. There were many people sun tanning, photo shooting on decks 15 and 16, the Pixel GPS worked and I was able to take a snap shot of our location (just between the shoe tip of Italy and Catania. Had 5 minutes MB with legs, no EJ-very tired. Had a nearly all vegetable lunch except for a small piece of Tilapia. Walked 5 circles of the jogging trail on deck 16 after dropping off two glasses of ice water. Dozed off and woke up a bit woozy. It’s seafood dinner tonight, we both had a controlled quantity and high quality seafood plates. Watched (reserved yesterday) “Burn the floor” Havana style high energy dance show, the highest quality dance we’ve watched on NCL cruises.
9/25/2021: Got up at 6:00. Purchased two all day shuttle tickets (from ship excursion desk) to Dubrovnik old town for $15 each-kind of expensive if we don’t use it more than once. Took the shuttle at 9:20, we are at the old town in less than 10 minutes. The most famous part of the city is the wall circling it, we bought the tickets and started climbing it, it did not look but is challenging for me at least, but it was OK once we were at the top, there were still some step climbing to do but manageable. Anita bought a couple of magnets with Euros, Croatia officially does not use Euro even though it is an Euro member, but many private businesses took Euros. Took the shuttle back to the ship and back to our stateroom after finished the wall tour and a little bit strolling in the town square, there were many locals as it is a weekend. Had lunch at O’Sheehan’s (deck 8 mid), Anita and I shared one fish and chip, one half a dozen Buffalo wings, and one Cobb salad. It’s almost pleasant to dine at O’Sheehan’s, very few people, seating is comfortable, and food is prepared after ordering. Got online with Google Fi data plan, looks like it remains accessible at each port we visited so far-mostly LTE level speed. Realized I have been having stomach problem, the symptom appeared to be extremely stomach movement-food does not get digested, they stay in my stomach causing gas, bloating……, I skipped dinner all together hoping it’ll get better. Adjusted all devices forward one hour for visiting Greece ports the next 5 days.
9/26/2021: Still waking up every one or two hours during the night, adjusted Sony camera time to Greece time zone. Got up at 6:00. Had breakfast at 6:45, I had a small portion to keep my stomach happy. Decided to go earlier, waited in “Illusionarium” for our turn (Latitude priority tendering) to take tender, got on the tender at 8:50, heading toward shore at 9:01, stepped on Corfu at 9:11. Walking through a hilly street toward the “Old Fortress”, was very challenging for me, but it’s nice trying a different route. Much of the Old Fortress remained the same, we did hiked up the highest point, also another challenge but managed with breaks in between. We took the coastal line getting back to the tender stop, that was a little detour as we had circled back to the main road for the tender stop. Had a light lunch at Garden Cafe, I had some salad and some fruit. Rested the whole afternoon. Headed out to Le Bistro at 6:20, waited until 5:45 before getting in. We picked Moscato (from California?) for our Latitude complimentary wine, we order the same dishes-Escargots à la Bourguignonne ($11 if ordered regularly): Herbed Garlic Butter, Mushrooms, Almonds, Hazelnuts for appetizer and Fruits de Mer* ($29): Butter-Roasted Jumbo Shrimp and Scallops, Little Neck Clams, Celery Root Puree, Asparagus, Saffron Sauce, both were delicious, we finish the whole bottle of Moscato which Anita appreciated dearly-much better than Barefoot Moscato as it’s got special smell to it, will try to find what brand it is.
9/27/2021: Got up at 5:40-still with many wake ups during the night. Heading to Katakolon train station at 8:30, got to the station in about 20 minutes, surprised to find the small booth was closed with poster outside listing all other normally scheduled trains cancelled except one left at 8:45, this is totally the opposite to their website indicated-more trains will be scheduled on the days cruises dock, there were two cruises today, what happened? Grossly misleading information from their website, so we decided not to go to Olympia but instead strolling the streets of Katakolon, Anita got 6 magnets for 10 Euros, possibly the least expensive ones we’ve seen throughout our trips. Went back to the ship for lunch. Returned to Katakolon for another stroll after a short rest, stopped by Art Gallery Periplus, a collection of Greek Artists works, it has many delicate and exquisite artworks, Anita purchased quite a few of them (small ones). Stopped by the duty free store just off the ship docking pier, their price was even lower plus 20% more off, wow!
9/28/2021: Got up at 6:00-still with too many early wake ups. Tendering to Santorini today, we had lunch at O’Sheehan-one 1/2 dozen Buffalo wings and one Fish&Chips. The tender wasn’t NCL’s life boat, it out source to local company, took about 15 minutes, we got to Shore and found out no more Oía bound boat as it requires 20 people to sail, we took the cable car (6 Euro each) up to Fira, look for bus station but found out a taxi stand next to it, costing 25 Euros to get us there, 20 minutes later, we are in Oía, found Anita’s must see building, took photos, strolled part of the streets and purchased a number of small souvenirs, it was hot but felt OK under the shade because wind made the heat disappear, waited for the bus too get back to Fira, ticket was 1.6 Euros, we got on the second bus, it was a torture during the ride as the isle was also was filled with people, the air conditioner useless, finally we got back to Fira after 24 minutes, quickly found our way to the cable car and got down to the pier, located NCL tender stop, had a glass of ice water, got on the tender, returned to our stateroom around 3:25.
9/29/2021: Got up at 6:20-only woke up twice during the night. Got to Mykonos on tender at 9:15. Started trolling the many tiny but busy streets, tons of stores selling clothes, jewelry, souvenir……. Got back to the ship around 11:30. Had lunch at Garden Cafe, rested a bit then headed out to a Mykonos again at 12:40. Going for something we hadn’t visited and found some ruins and most importantly, the windmills-6 of them together, good photo opportunity, took a couple of selfies, me looking bad though. Spent only one hour on shore this time before going back to the ship-Anita got a ceramic plate of Mykonos, good one. The transfer bus from Civitavecchia to FCO was cancelled by the company, we had to find something else, possibly ship’s own transfer bus, will check it out later. Booked two tickets ($75 each) for FCO transfer, we had to debarked at 8:00, a bit early since our flight is at 2:50, will need to find something to do while waiting at FCO.
9/30/2021: Got up at 6:00. We decided not to go to Athens as it appeared to be too much hassle (mostly a bit tired), walking around Piraeus may not be a bad idea, but we could not find too much info on Piraeus. As we walked out of the ship and a few minutes later found tour bus waiting, after some explanation we decide to take the Athens & Piraeus Open Top Bus, change to yellow line at P6 for Athens. Ticket was 16 Euros per person. It turned out colors of the bus does not represent the lines, it’s the card board inside the bus wind shield counts-yellow card means yellow line, blue card means blue line……, all was confusing, had to ask and confirm before boarding the bus. The traffic jam in Athens was also terrible, it took one hour and thirty minutes to circle the vista points once, got off the interchange stop and got on a blue line, returned to the ship around 1:10. Had lunch at O’Sheehan-Buffalo wings and Fish& Chips. Received instruction on when and where to take antigen test (4:00-5:00 100402021 at Bliss Lounge deck 7 aft) and online completion of PLF with 30 minutes free Internet time. It turned out the 30 minutes free Internet time requires $3.95 activation fee, I decided to use the still available Google Fi LTE service instead, the PLF took more than 30 minutes to complete as it is not very straight forward, we got it done over 40 minutes, downloaded PDF format (4 pages) and made the 4 pages into Google drive, also Airdrop them to Anita’s iPad as well as her iPhone.
10/1/2021: Got up at 5:30. Went to Garden Cafe at 7:30 for breakfast, but it wasn’t fully open yet, it turned out there was a one hour roll back as we are entering Italy time zone, had a couple of coffee until it fully opened around 6:55. Had lunch at Savor, one of the sit down complimentary restaurants, ordered appetizers Shrimp Fritter and Vietnamese pho, plus a bottle of East-West mix wine made by Michael Mondavi for Norwegian, decided to have the rest (2/3 of the bottle) tonight at La Cucina. Still very full when getting to La Cucina, ordered a bresaola (thinly sliced air-dried beef on arugula, lemon and olive oil dressing, and a Gamberi FRA Diavolo (sautéed shrimp, spicy tomato sauce, linguini), Anita had exactly the same, both dishes were delicious plus the environment was great, very comfortable meal, had a little leftover red wine, brought back the rest (about 1/3 full). Got online and checked Germany’s digital registration requirements, it appeared that we do not need to fill this out since none of the countries we visited in the last 10 days was in high-risk category, and without any risk area entry, I wasn’t able to continue with the registration, will have to dig more and/or wait until checking in Lufthansa to see what they request?!?!?!
10/2/2021: Got up at 6:30. Had a light breakfast since we are going on Naples excursion. Waited in the Getaway theatre for our turn to board the bus, got on bus #34 at 8:20, started the excursion at 8:40. The tour wasn’t impressive but it’s only way we could get on shore. Got two e-mails fro Lufthansa, one for entering Germany: upload vaccine record within 12 hours of flight departure, this means 2:50 am 10/4/2021, the second mail regarding required documentation entering US: A negative antigen test result, two printed copies of health attestation form. I found out what the “health attestation” is and went to ship guest service for help, they do not have available copies (seemed odd since more than half of the passengers are from the US and this is required document entering the US), but the lady found out online of the form (a little out dated but it’s good enough) and printed 4 pages for us. The form could not have been simpler, printed name, a checker mark, and signature-done.
10/3/2021: Got up at 6:00. Got negative antigen test result back, both printed and e-mail copies, however need to download PDF files when reaching Livorno for more reliable LTE service. The Google Fi data service in Livorno is pretty bad, I could only get H+ near the window, and downloading the file is simply impossible, went up to deck 16, got LTE on Pixel, tried Anita’s iPhone several minutes before her test result e-mail even showed up, finished the downloading process afterward, still have problem moving it up to my Google Drive though. The Livorno Pisa excursion was OK, it would have been better if we could spend more time on our own and explore the area. Went up to deck 16 to check in Lufthansa flights, it was tedious answering all the questions listed, I had to stop and go back to the stateroom to check when it asked if our passport was bio…., the session quit and I had to start over, after nearly 30 minutes, both our boarding passes were issued, transferring them to Anita’s cell phone was easy with Airdrop, but I had to go to deck 7 port side to allow Google Drive to sync to my Pixel. Tried login ship’s Internet failed miserably, most likely because too many people were using it, have to wake up 5 hours later to check it out-uploading vaccine record to Lufthansa?!?!?!
10/4/2021: Got up at 2:50, tried but found out all remaining Internet minutes was gone, damn! Obviously NCL disabled it after 12:00 midnight, how can they do this?!?!?! Tried uploading document after docking at Civitavecchia port but name+reservation number was rejected indicating not finding match, gave up. The Garden Cafe was more crowded than any day during our trip, obviously everyone wanted to get off the ship as early as possible. We disembarked around 7:50 disregarding the “Pink” label for our time, it’s much faster, got on the airport bus at 8:00, got to FCO airport at 9:10. Since it was way too early to check in our luggage, we found seats upstairs and rested. Anita found out the line in front of Lufthansa was very long, so we decided to wait in line to see if we could drop off our luggage, after 25 minutes wait, we were able to drop off our luggage after the lady checked out vaccination cards, antigen test result and passport, new boarding passes were issued. Had a ham something meal for lunch, went through the security, again, a lady guard asked to see our vaccine cards before waiting in security check point, by looking at the crowd, you’d think there no pandemic here. Flight LH235 was 10 minutes behind schedule but, most likely because of tailwind, it arrived Frankfurt 30 minutes ahead of schedule, taxi to bridge took another 8 minutes though. We had a little problem finding way to Hilton Garden Inn, not too many people we asked (mostly airport personnel) know where it was but finally one of them knows exactly how to get there. We were assigned room 7251, we were at 7269 in 2017. Went out and found the same grocery store Rewe and purchased one bottle 750ml Barefoot Moscato, one box mixed fruit, and one bottle Kiwi juice there, picked one piece of pizza from a store nearby. Went out again after dinner and got 3 buns from another bakery for breakfast tomorrow.
10/5/2021: Got up at 5:50 (again with several midnight wake ups). The buns was delicious with coffee. Headed out to Terminal 1 at 8:10, passport check then security check, both of our backpacks were searched because we had liquid inside, obviously they also require liquid bottles to be lumped in a plastic bag. Followed by passport, boarding pass as well as antigen test result examinations. Got to gate Z69 at 8:50, it was exhausting to say the least. Hopefully there will be some stretch rooms on the plane for a less stressful flight. Boarded the plane at 10:15, this flight is about 60% filled, our seats were 45 H and J, someone was sitting in 45J, I occupied 45J while Anita moved to 45G with 45D occupied and 45E and 45F empty. Row 45H & 45J has a gap between seat and the fuselage, an added bonus room for my shoes and backpack. Flight LH454 finally took off at 11:09 after taxing and waiting in line. It’s raining and very foggy until we reached cruising altitude. Could not sleep throughout the flight but did doze off several times while listening to “The Three Mrs. Wrights: A Novel”. We landed at SFO at 1:00. Prepare passport, antigen test result, health attestation, but only passport was asked for, which kind of pisses me off for having to worry about preparing them all this time. Jack picked us up, there’s a traffic jam on Commercial street, took over 15 minutes just to get through, paid him $85 for his service ($75 fee). Called Mom at 7:00 briefly for 3 minutes. Went to bed around 9:30.
10/6/2021: Got up at 5:00. Failed to access camera SD card from Mac Book Pro, Finder always hang for unknown reason, not sure how to upload hundreds of photos. Found out I can simply connect the camera to MacBook Pro with an USB cable and it will treat the camera as an USB device and access the contents freely-looks like the SD slot is broken and could not be used any more. Uploaded all photos and video clips from the camera to MacBook Pro, all of the original date/time remain unchanged, need to rename all of them with numbers xxxx0, so photos from other devices maybe inserted properly. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased two dozen pasture eggs, one box grape tomatoes, one box Blueberry, one box Raspberry, one pack Kirkland Chick thighs (with skin), one pack (x6 bottles) caribe juice (Passionfruit/orange/guava), one pack (x8) danish, two pack Noosa Yogurt, one bottle 750ml Woodwork Cabernet Sauvignon, one bottle 750ml Big Max Cabernet Sauvignon, one set Spring Mix, one Pineapple, one bottle 750ml Stella Rosa Pearl Rose, and one Artisan Jalapeño dip. Trimmed off Passion Fruit vines close to the kitchen window, it's getting too heavy now.
10/7/2021: Got up at 5:00. Filled the feeder even though it still at about 20% level. Visited Walmart by myself and got one Mom's Birthday card, 3 bottle 1.5L Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, 2 bottle 1.5L Barefoot Merlot, one bottle 1.5L Barefoot Moscato. Swing by Marina Grocery and got one Turnip cake, three Fuji Apple, one pack (x4) Neoguri spicy seafood noodle, one bag dried shrimp, 8 bag HFH spicy peanuts, two white onions, 4 tomatoes, one pack small Gai Choy, one hand bananas, one string garlic, and one bag small carrots. Cleaned up backyard Oleander and Passion Fruit leaves/flowers. Managed renaming (add numbers ahead of their file names) all Sony camera photos/video clips, a total of ~470 files. photos/video clips from Pixel, Anita's iPhone, and my iPad will be next. Called Peilee at 6:00 for 24 minutes, he's schedule for his second AZ shot next week. Called Mom at 7: for 18 minutes.
10/8/2021: Got up at 4:00, went back to sleep at 5:00, finally got up at 6:30. Discovered I can backup iPhone or iPad on my MacBook Pro instead of iCloud, since I still have over 400G on my Mac, backing up them both won't be an issue, so new iPhone and/or iPad can easily replace the old ones. Cleaned up leftover garden waste in the street-lots of dust and sand. Placed order for Anita on a iPhone 13 Pro ($999.00 + $93.66 = $1092.66), to be delivered between 11/10 and 11/17. Received Meow Mix from Amazon at 1:44. Downloaded all photos from iPad as well as Pixel (from Google Photo as they were automatically uploaded there) to MacBook Pro, their original timestamps are intact, one problem, however, when I used Finder to align them according to creation date, most of them were not placed properly, looks like I'll have to place them one at a time by carefully examining their timestamps. Ran into Mr. Kim as I was going to water front lawn, handed him the two miss delivered mails and the chocolate.
10/9/2021: Got up at 5:30. Took part in the hiking I missed for over one year. There were 5 people in the group: Alex, Sophia, Cindy, Steve, and myself, The first 15 minutes was OK as it's mostly flat surface, but once it turned upward, I was lagging behind and had to stop and rest several times before reaching the summit, but I managed to finished the whole hike. Jerry and Ruby joined us at Peet's, I left at 11:05 to visit Marukai, got one pack thick slice toast, two Yakisoba set, one Sashimi Moriawase 4A, one Amashio Sake Kirimi, one California roll (they didn't have the seaweed wrapped ones I used to purchased), one Pork Tonkatsu, and one Salmon Shioyaki bento. Went to bed at 10:30.
10/10/2021: Got up at 6:03. Trimmed off several Passion fruit vines that were over the kitchen sliding door exit. Received iPhone 13 Pro case and wrist straps. Used one of the strap on Anita's iPhone 6 plus, works. Called Mom at 7:00 for 27 minutes.
10/11/2021: Got up at 5:00. Peeled the pine apple purchased last Wednesday, it's ripe enough for consumption. Trimmed off more Passion Fruit vines, a lot had been trimmed but still a good amount to go. Finished reading Amazon Kindle book "The Three Mrs. Wrights", interesting but with a bit far fetched plot.
10/12/2021: Got up at 5:50. Cleaned up backyard Passion fruit leaves and Oleander flowers and leaves-with the help of cordless blower. The Christmas lights from Amazon at 11:15, got it only after checking delivery status at 12:40. Mailed Mom's Birthday card along with several our trip photos, used the self-service machine because the line was long, the only thing is the printed postage ($2.25) had a fold-here in the middle which I wasn't sure what to do with it but decided to glue the stamp portion on the front and fold the other half to to back of the envelope. Called Mom at 7:12 (she's washing clothes in the balcony at 7:00) for 31 minutes. Watered front lawn for 35 minutes, watered front porch flowers for 5 minutes.
10/13/2021: Got up at 7:00-finally back to normal. Took RX300 for Smog test at South Bay Test Center, passed in just 10 minutes for $60. Could not renew DMV registration online as the certificate would not be uploaded by test center until tomorrow-contrary to before when certificates were uploaded right away. Went to bed at 9:30.
10/14/2021: Got up at 5:00. Renewed RX300 DMV registration online (%2 were added for credit card payment).
Stopped by Marina Grocery and picked up three bag HFH spicy peanuts, 3 bag HFH crunchy/spicy chili/peanut, one bunch celery, one bag carrot, and 3 Fuji Apple. Received another Christmas lights from Amazon at 1:38 delivered this morning at 11:41. Had 15 minutes MB with mini, EJ. Called Mom several times after 7:00 but she's not picking up, according to Peilee she's been acting weird lately. Found out I can use Airdrop to copy photos from Mac Photo to iPad photo and keep the original timestamps but they would be difficult to identify since there'll be too many of them. Turned in at 11:30.
10/15/2021: Got up at 7:00. Trimmed off several more Passion fruit vines, this time from higher level. Found out one way keeping photo timestamps intact while copying photos from the PHOTO app, using "Export" feature and select "Export unmodified original..." to selected directory, remember to click "Date Created" to align date based alignment. Went to bed at 11:30.
10/16/2021: Got up at 6:45, getting ready for hiking. Jason showed up at 7:58. Started hiking at 8:18, but Jason, to my surprise, had to rest every few minutes, by the time we finished 2/3 of the flat surface portion, he decided to quit, met Alex and Steve (Cindy's husband) on our way back. Stopped by Marukai, got two pack Hamachi Kama, one pickled ginger, one bag Edamame, and one California roll. Help Jason set up his cell phone Chinese hand writing input.
10/17/2021: Got up at 6:50. Trimmed off several more Passion fruit vines. Did not do much the whole day.
10/17/2021: Got up at 6:55. Donated $20.8 including credit card fee to Wikipedia. Visited Costco with Anita, got one box grape tomatoes, one pack peeled Pomegranate, one pack mixed Peppers, two dozen pasture eggs, one pack (x8) Angus burger, one pack (x12) Bao, one bag Mayan Blend coffee bean, one can Ardes 2, one Cranberry Walnut bread, one bag Fuji Apple, one can Seaweed salad, one bunch flower, one box cheese popper, and one pack (x2) orange juice. Since the Vonage connected phone constantly failed to connect, the Ethernet connection seemed to be at fault most of the time, I decided to move the Vonage box to the study and leave the kitchen wall phone off (turned out this is a mistake as the base station is required), but a different issue as I connected the Ethernet cable to the yellow connector and made a fool of myself as it did not work upstairs and it also failed downstairs, it took me over one hour to figure out my mistake, reconnecting the Ethernet cable to the blue connector and reconnect the phone cord to line 1, it is back to normal now, looks like it could only stay at where it is unless we decide to get rid of the landline altogether. Had one hour and 35 minutes group call with Peilee and sis, discussed various problems with Mom and his family members.
10/18/2021: Got up at 7:00. Trimmed off a number of Passion fruit vines from the bedroom window, this cleared up quite a bit of the dangling ones near the outside wall. Ordered one Pixel 6 Pro and one 30W charging adapter from Google.
Had 10 minutes MB with legs, EJ-getting close to non-functional stage. Called Mom at 7:00 for 16 minutes, she complained not being able to sleep because of the noise and creatures in her bedroom.
10/20/2021: Got up at 7:03. Filled up RX300 at Costco, although there were many waiting in lines but I luckily got in on one line with just one minute wait. Stopped by Chevron to get an oil change but both lifts were occupied, will come back some other time.
10/21/2021: Got up at 7:00. It started to rain around 9:10. Stopped by Chevron to see if oil change's available, unfortunately both lifts were occupied plus two more cars waiting, may have to do it myself if condition does not improve. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers, the deck, after light rain, started showing dirt mix, had to rely on stronger rain to wash them clean. Had 20 minutes MB with hands and legs, EJ-coming to an end soon. Finished re-labeling all trip photos in timestamp order, the next thing would be editing them properly. Called Mom at 7:00 for 11 minutes, she's tired from lack of sleep due to the same condition.
10/22/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Marina Grocery and purchased 4 bag HFH spicy peanuts, 3 bag HFH crunchy/spicy chili/peanut, one pack fried fish cake, one bag carrot, two Fuji Apple, Soybean sprout, and one hand banana, also got half a roast duck-it's now $15.79, more than a whole duck's price 10 years ago. Cleaned up majority of today's leftover garden waste in the street, individual leaves simply wouldn't come off with rain water sticking them on the ground. Received Paul Mitchell shampoo from Amazon at 5:05.
10/23/2021: Got up at 7:00. Went hiking by myself, started the walk at 8:18, did not stop until the point of uphill hike, but had to stop 4 times during the climbing, reseted at the summit for 5 minutes but did not see anyone coming up, only to realize that I was the only hiker of the group today. Stopped by Marukai, got one Karei whole, one Nama Sake Kirimi, one English bread, one Futomaki, and one Spicy Rainbow Poke Bowl.
10/24/2021: Got up at 7:15. It did not rain much last night, but wind was fierce. The feeder appeared to be malfunctioning again, nothing came out of it at designated times, will need to check it out after the rain has stopped. Ishin is at his son's home, will call me to et together sometime this week, hopefully it's not Thursday when I have magazine mailing label work. Called Mom at 7:00 three times before picked it up, but did not want to continue after only 1 minute.
10/25/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by Chevron at 8:30 for RX300 oil change only to discover they open at 9:00, went home and stop over again at 8:45. The owner came by at 8:50 and opened on time at 9:00. He changed oil, changed oil filter, inflated tires, also checked brake status, the mechanic suggest that the front ones need work soon, all these for $65.
Moved the bike with stand to rearranged garage, sovling noise and freeing up living room space.
Received new RX300 license plate sticker from DMV. Reprogrammed the auto feeder at 5:08, hopefully it'll work again. The auto feeder failed to dispense anything at 5:30 as programmed, removed the top cover and found out the time is 0:43, somehow the battery had a bad contact, reset the feeder and all programming disappeared, had to take it apart, remove the food inside, check the battery housing tomorrow.
10/26/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased one pack organic grape tomato, one pack Blueberry, one pack (x8) Danish, two dozen pasture-raised egg, one bag large frozen shrimp, two can creamy peanut butter, one goat cheese, one 64 oz Hazelnut creamer, and one pineapple. Disassemble the auto feeder (all food had to be emptied to access battery housing, the batteries, although still can support the display, were less than 1.2V and most likely unable to drive the motor (possibly reset itself while attempting to), replaced three new batteries which showed 1.67V each show fix the problem-hopefully, reassemble the feeder, filled the container to the brim. The feeder is working as of 12:00. Finalized the trip photo, too many photos plus a lot had the timestamp mixed up, fixed quite a few today, mostly related to time zone and the errors I made while editing timestamps. Called Mom at 7:00 for 11 minutes, she had received the Birthday card we sent on 10/12/2021. Edited more incorrect time zone photos in the album.
10/27/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned the coffee table with Pledge, it must have been several years since the last cleaning as the edges were covered with dirt and oil mixed stuff making the job much difficult. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers, took me nearly two hours. Robert and wife arrived at 2:00 while IShin, as always late, came over at 2:15, we chatted (from our trip to Europe, to raising pets) until 5:50. Sis called at 20 for 18 minutes, discussing ways of telling Mom to see doctor or taking medicine, she has no confidence Mom will follow our advice at all.
10/28/2021: Got up at 7:00. Label day at Dynamicfoundation, stopped by Costco and purchased 6 bottles 750ml ? Cabernet Sauvignon before hand. The labeling process took 2 hours and 20 minutes, this is the only time no lunch or eggs were provided as a thank you gesture. Had 15 minutes MB with mini, EJ. IShin also invited Chiming to his son's house Saturday, not sure how we'll mention Tuesday's chat at our house. Called Mom at 7:35 but later changed to Line as the sound was too weak, Peilee, sis, and myself talked into (at least for the moment) into seeing specialty doctor for her condition, hope she does not change her mind. The scheduled FedEx delivery of my new Pixel 6 Pro was not full filled.
10/29/29/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Still no updates on FedEx delivery schedule, possibly the worst company ever, wonder why Google still use them. Put a hold on delivery of the package to their office on Oakland road so I don't have to wait aimlessly. Called Peilee after I missed his call, just to inform me that Mom had seen the doctor and got prescription (3 to be taken before bed time).
10/30/2021: Got up at 7:00. Decided not to go hike at Parker Ranch, rode my raised bike in the garage for 30 minutes. Robert and wife had to take care of something and could not join us at IShin son's house, the 5 of us chatted (mostly Ishin) from 2:00 to 4:00 before leaving, Ishin was reluctant to let us go.
10/31/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Peeled 24 Persimmons ready for cake making.
Called Mom at 7:00, as warned by Peilee, she's not picking up my call, so I did not try redial.
11/1/2021: Got up at 7:40. Stopped by FedEx office on Old Oakland road and picked up my new Pixel 6 Pro plus a 30W charge adapter.
Pixel 6 Pro setup is almost complete pending software update, the USB-C cable was used for transferring apps and data, also there is a new sim card in the new phone, no need to use the old sim card currently in the Pixel 1, phone number transfer was done meaning the new phone is now is service but the old phone (Pixel 1) is now deactivated. Received Pixel 6 Pro case from Amazon at 4:25 by UPS, it's soft but thiner than I expected, not sure if a hand wrap can be securely attached to it. Turned out Pixel 6 Pro is still installing app as of 5:05-"Installed 102 out of 152 applications", at least one more hour is needed.
Pixel 6 Pro finished all apps installation, but there are three problems-Google Drive storage (82% of 36G used), Line backup issue (need to backup the one on Pixel 1 in order to restore it on Pixel 6), and Skype issue (can not login without my old and extinguished hotmail account).
11/2/2021: Gort up at 7:00. Visited Marina Grocery by myself, purchased 5 bag HFH crunchy/spicy chili/peanut, 2 bag HFH spicy peanut, one hand banana, one pack small Gai Choy, one bag small carrot, 6 green Bell Pepper, one pack pork baby back rib, and one 1gallon white vinegar. Attached wrist wrap to my Pixel 6 Pro case, it's not as strong as the one on Pixel 1 because the soft does not grab the phone tightly which provide less protection. Also attached a black wrist wrap for Anita's iPhone 13 Pro case.
Researched Google Drive access permission for Line, no clue so far, worst case is that all existing chats would be gone, starting over. Decided to upgrade Google storage to 100G for $19.99/year, my old legacy 21G addition to the free 15G made the total 121G, will discontinue the 21G when it's time for renewal. Had 10 minutes MB with legs, EJ. Started a chat with Google but there were 43 people ahead of me so I went off to do other things only to find out the other end also left after I failed to respond. Called Mom at 7:00, had to call back at 7:25 after she's had her breakfast, listened to her for 15 minutes. Placed an order for Pixel Buds A-Series for free (an offer for ordering Pixel 6 Pro), but the shipment won't happen until December 4th.
11/3/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Spent most of the day on Line backup issues, zero solution found, I think I'll just give up what's on Pixel 1 and start over on Pixel 6, also merging into either Line Out of Google Voice to replace Skype which also did not have a solution.
11/4/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers-it rained last night, making deck kind of dirty, also rain water accumulating on the tree leaves made accessing underneath a bit wet. Backup Anita's iPhone 6 Plus, getting ready to restore it to her new iPhone 13 Pro which is supposed to come in between 9:00 and 12:00 today-new update from Apple Store. Anita's iPhone 13 Pro was delivered by FedEx at 11:49 as promised-this has to be a more expensive delivery service as opposed to what Google used.
Decided to use quick setup to copy data to new iPhone 13 Pro-side by side Bluetooth work, but it seemed to stuck after more than half an hour, so I cancelled that process and tried backup copy on MacBook Pro, took me a while to find the encryption password for the backup and started restoring process at 7:45. By the time I went to bed, the iOS 15.01 was still being installed on iPhone 13 Pro.
11/5/2021: Got up at 7:00. The installation process is done, I'll work on sim card transfer this afternoon or in the evening as Anita has a lunch date with her classmates. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Cleaned up leftover garden in the street-25 minutes. Transferred Anita's Google Fi Sim card to her new iPhone 13 Pro and the phone function worked right away. Disabled her new phone's Google Photos backup feature to save space. Received one Champion sweatpants from Amazon at 4:19-discovered that this one is open bottom which I need to do something about it before I could wear without folding them up. Spoke to Peilee about Mom's condition, she's weaker than before taking the new medication, having difficulty walking, may need 24 hour caring. Added anitachang100 to my 121G Google One family.
11/6/2021: Got up at 7:08. Walked to 99 Ranch Market and back, took 43 minutes, possibly only 1/3 of the exercise level as hiking at Parker Ranch but it's enough to break loose my lung muscle-a little pain on my back during first half of the walk, much better coming back. Had 10 minutes MB with legs, EJ. Peilee took Mom to the hospital for emergency care, many different tests were performed, I do not have any new info at this moment (11:51pm), need to research how to get back to Taiwan. Daylight saving roll back at 2:00am.
11/7/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Got another box of Persimmons from the Kim family, peeled 12 of them. Unmarked Passion Fruit count was around 25, making the total ~67 for year 2021. Called Mom at 6:00 (fallback time) but Peilee informed me she does not want to receive the call, I'll try again in one hour. Called Mom again at 7:02, she picked up this time (possibly after Peilee insisted) and talked for 17 minutes.
11/8/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased (from three different checkouts) one pack grape tomato, one pack Blueberry, one Cranberry Walnut bread, one bottle Pomegranate juice, two dozen pasture egg, one bunch Tulip, two pack hand cream, one pack (x8) Chicken pot pie, one can iron tablet, 4 bottle 750ml Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon, two bottle 750ml Red Blend Portugal, one pack Pepper Jack cheese, and one pack (x5) organic Artisan Romaine lettuce. Registered for our second Shingle shots at 9:50, paid and got shot at 10:40. Played 40 minutes table tennis at Dynamicfoundation, 5 minutes with Stephanie, 35 minutes with Kung. Left arm pain seemed to worsen after playing table tennis, will slow down everything this afternoon. Received iPhone 13 Pro screen glass protector from Amazon at 4:33, will install it tomorrow when my left arm feels better.
11/9/2021: Got up at 7:00. The second Shingle shot appeared affecting more of my body, waking up with a headache on both temples, also some body ache especially on the upper part. Fully charged Pixel 6 Pro at 4:15, see how long before requiring the next charge.
11/10/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco with Anita at 8:50, it's already open. Purchased one pack Goat milk hand lotion, one pack scallop ($49.99), two bottle 750ml red blend Portugal, 2 bottle 750ml Acclaimed red wine, and one can Parmesan cheese, the lobster we had last year is now nearly double the price (>$100), scrapped that idea. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Called Mom at 6:00 for 8 minutes, she's becoming a little more disoriented the last several times I spoke to her. Installed glass screen protector on Anita's iPhone 13 Pro, the application was straight forward but the instruction missed the last step-removing the tope portion of the film which made me think something was wrong as the top film had strong glues on four corner, luckily I found out what happened and removed the film and completed the installation.
11/11/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Marina Grocery by myelf, purchased 5 bag HFH crunchy/spicy chili/peanut, 5 bag HFH spicy peanut, one pack thick bean curd, four Tomatoes, 4 pickle cucumbers, one pack carrot, 3 Fuji Apple, one bunch green onion, one pouch Pork Bone soup base, and one can Iodized salt. Stopped by CVS next door, none of the wine were marked on sale as the store was in the middle of remodeling. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers-the volume had been much smaller the last several days. Had 15 minutes MB with mini, no EJ. Decided not to cook for dinner, will have cheese popper and Edamame instead. Called Mom at 9:20 for 3 minutes, she appeared in good spirit.
11/12/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Had 10 minutes MB with RM, EJ. Peilee called at 3:50, he suggested sending Mom to a nursing home, I basically agreed but carrying out this will be a major challenge. Will have a video conference with sis and Peilee later. Peilee called at 6:30 changing video conference call to 9:30. Even though sis kind of agreed sending Mom to nursing home during the conference call but she later call me aired her disagreement to this, arguing that Mom should be taken care of by everyone in Peilee's household, I did not agree to her every points but understood her angles.
11/13/2021: Got up at 7:00. Walked to 99 Ranch Market, purchased two small containers of food, my back/lung did not feel stressed this time, the whole event took 45 minutes. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers-twice. Trimmed several Passion Fruit vines near the kitchen window shade. Pixel 6 Pro can last over four days in standby mode with occasional use. Fully charged Pixel 6 Pro at 7:15.
11/14/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers. Trimmed off a big chunk of the Jasmine vines in the front porch, it's been a while since last trimming, the weight of the vines actually pulled the support frame forward, Called Mom at 6:00 for 15 minutes, she's in a much better mood today, similar to a few months ago when she could chat for 30 minutes or longer.
11/15/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers, scooped up most loose dirt and leaves (and a good amount of cat poops) next to the fence to our Filipino neighbor, they were used by cats (not sure which ones) as litter sites, hopefully this can reduce their presence. Anita's having reunion lunch with her TFGH classmates at Koi Palace. Trimmed off more front porch Jasmine vines. Had 30 minutes MB with legs, EJ. Peilee called inquiring about Movefree Ultra price and shipping, also chatted about Mom's condition being up and down in her memory and such.
11/16/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up backyard leaves and flowers-even fewer of them to clean today. Trimmed front porch Jasmine vines twice (one in the morning, one in early afternoon), it's about 1/3 of its original size.
Spent nearly 30 minutes reserving Covid-19 booster shot at CVS, it kicked me out as I was about to finish, had to start over, it asked every questions imaginable, failed getting rid of pop-up blocked message when I tried to read the patient fact sheet, gave up after several tries plus unsetting Safari pop-up block setting, continue with the scheduling regardless, got appointment completed.
Called Mom at 7:00 for 14 minutes.
11/17/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco with Anita, purchased one bunch flowers, one pack organic grape tomatoes, one pack Blueberry, one pack (x8) Danish, two dozen pasture eggs, two bottle orange juice, two bottle 1.5L Kirkland Cabernet Sauvignon, two bottle 750ml red blend Portugal, one bottle 750ml Imperial Moscato, one pack (x6) mixed Pepper, one Italian cake, one bag Godiva Heart chocolate, and one pack mushroom. Filled up RX300 at $4.199/gal. Filled the feeder even though it still had some 15% amount left, it's been 3 weeks since last refill. Scheduled booster shot for Anita, since there's rare Pfizer booster shot available in the next 2 weeks, Anita requested Moderna instead, appointment is on 1:00pm, 11/30 at the CVS on Berryessa (next to Safeway). Fully charged Pixel 6 Pro.

Had 15 minutes MB with legs, EJ. Made chicken steaks and stir fry cucumbers for dinner, will have duck tomorrow and Saturday instead. Called Mom at 6:00 for 15 minutes.
11/19/2021: Got up at 7:00. Cleaned up leftover garden waste in the street. Cleaned up another pile of cat poops next to the fence to our Filipino neighbor, the area I cleaned out the other day stayed clean. Played one hour table tennis with Robert. Trimmed off a good number of Passion Fruit vines under the old patio umbrella frame.
11/20/2021: Got up at 7:00. Stopped by Osaka Marketplace but they won't open until 10:00, decided to hike a little, walked until the point where the slope was more than 15%, returned to parked car, a total of 45 minutes-still a good workout. Swing by Osaka again, even though the sign displayed OPEN but there were no traffic going in ot out plus the door's closed, went to Marukai instead, purchased two bag Edamame (one$1.99, the other $3.29, will see they are different), two Salmon Shioyaki bento, one Futomaki, one Yakisoba set, two Nama Sake Kirimi, one pack lean ground pork, one pack Asparagus, and one bag carrots. Tried signing up Kaiser Permanente, but I started on their website but got stuck on Attestation page, chatted online with one of their agents, discovered that I should not be there for open enrollment process. Searched and discovered that I needed to start with Medicare.gov, the process was surprisingly quick, I finished both (logging in individual) our enrollments in less than 15 minutes pending review and process by the plan.
11/22/2021: Got up at 7:00. Visited Costco with Anita at 8:50, the store had already opened with nearly 1/3 of the parking occupied, we purchased one Keurig coffee maker (to replace the one we have as it's showing signs of breaking down), one bag Bibigo potsticker, one box mini crab cake, one bunch flowers, two bottle 750ml red blend Portugal, and two bottle 1.5L Kirkland Cabernet Sauvignon. Drove Anita to July's house for their Hairspray musical event downtown San Jose, relied on Google Maps for direction to and back, very straight forward. Called Mom at 6:18 for 9 minutes, sis happened to be there but was on her own phone at the time, did not get a chance to speak to her. Rose's husband sent Anita home at 10:55.

Underarmor running shoes were delivered by Amazon at 10:37. Took Anita to CVS for her booster shot at 1:00, there were no text messages to her phone so she could check-in, she had to go to the CVS pharmacy to inform them before getting the shot, she's not happy, I am not happy either. Received Amazon delivery of the Underarmor running shoes. Called Mom at 7:50 (she's asleep my usual call time) for just 2 minutes, she's asked for chatting next time.

12/6/2021: Got up at 6:50. Sail Internet installation personnel arrived at 8:20. They (Chris and Jush) got on the roof from the backyard near the Living room sliding door, After they spent over two hours up on the roof installing dish, the locked download speed is 84M and download speed is 200M which I accepted since they are much much faster than what I have right now. They finished the installation around 11:15. I did some speed tests and was disappointed that the result was not good even right next to the router, downstairs tests were worse...... Sent a mail to their support informing them Chris and Josh forgot to take with them a roll of cable after finishing the installation. Tested wired (Ethernet) speed using MacBook Pro, the result appeared to be consistent upstairs and downstairs, it's the wireless part that showed low speed if tested downstairs. Sail Internet people (Chris) came over around 3:00 and picked up the cable. Moved ssc1746asus downstairs next to the printer, the performance improved to 38/66, not great but acceptable.
